Kerry Washington’s ABC drama series Scandal was one of the steamiest shows on broadcast television during its seven season run, though Washington herself wasn’t a fan of the makeout scenes.
The 45-year-old actress appeared on Ellen on Thursday, as they reminisced about Scandal, which debuted 10 years ago, when Washington said she got her in a bit of trouble with co-stars Tony Goldwyn and Scott Foley.
Ellen asked which of the co-stars she liked kissing the most, and Washington revealed she thought she was, ‘keeping the peace when I said I didn’t like kissing either one of them, but they were both pretty pissed for years.’

She added they asked her, ‘Why would you say that on national television?’ as Ellen said she could have ‘went the other way and say you liked kissing them equally.’
‘Who says that? No,’ Washington joked, as Ellen pressed on, insisting that one of them must have been the better kisser and asking who it was.
Washington just shook her head and pretended to zip her lips, though she added how playing White House fixer Olivia Pope helped the actress in her personal life.

‘Whenever something tragic would happen in politics, people would say, “Olivia Pope, you’ve gotta fix this,” and I was like, you know, real people have so much more power than Olivia Pope because Olivia Pope is not real,’ Washington said.
‘She can’t vote and she can’t volunteer and she can’t really change her community, so it was trying to get people to realize that you are the Olivia Pope of your community or family or neighborhood,’ she said to applause, adding, ‘That’s how she inspired me.’
Ellen mentioned that she was named Time Magazine’s Woman of the Year for both her acting and her activism, and she recently made headlines for doing both.

It was reported in late April that she had signed on for a voice role in The Simpsons, voicing Bart Simpson’s new 4th grade teacher, a Black woman named Rayshelle Payton.
The character was created by the show’s co-executive producer Carolyn Omine, who said she had been trying to find a way to include Washington in the show since watching her host Saturday Night Live in 2013.
