Kate Hudson offered up her thoughts on the ongoing ‘nepo babies’ controversy that began with a New York Magazine piece last week, saying that family members working in the same businesses are common, and that talent shines through no matter where it’s found.
The Los Angeles native, 43, – who is the daughter of Hollywood stalwart Goldie Hawn, 77, and singer Bill Hudson, 73 – was asked about the ongoing discussion in an interview with The Independent Saturday.
‘I don’t care where you come from, or what your relationship to the business is – if you work hard and you kill it, it doesn’t matter,’ the Oscar-nominated actress told the outlet.
The latest: Kate Hudson, 43, offered up her thoughts on the ongoing ‘nepo babies’ controversy, saying that family members working in the same businesses are common, and that talent shines through no matter where it’s found. Pictured earlier this month in London
She said of the topic, ‘The nepotism thing, I mean… I don’t really care. I look at my kids and we’re a storytelling family. It’s definitely in our blood. People can call it whatever they want, but it’s not going to change it.’
The Almost Famous star said she believed that ‘there are other industries where it’s’ more prevalent, citing modeling as a potential one.
‘I see it in business way more than I see it in Hollywood,’ said the actress, who portrays Birdie Jay in the new film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
She added: ‘Sometimes I’ve been in business meetings where I’m like, wait, “Whose child is this? Like, this person knows nothing!”‘

Two of Hudson’s brothers, Oliver Hudson, 46, and Wyatt Russell, 36, are also actors.
The controversy has generated criticism from other second-generation performers in entertainment, including Jamie Lee Curtis, 64, and Lily-Rose Depp, 23.
Curtis said in an Instagram post, ‘It’s curious how we immediately make assumptions and snide remarks that someone related to someone else who is famous in their field for their art, would somehow have no talent whatsoever.
‘I have suited up and shown up for all different kinds of work with thousands of thousands of people and every day I’ve tried to bring integrity and professionalism and love and community and art to my work. I am not alone. There are many of us. Dedicated to our craft. Proud of our lineage. Strong in our belief in our right to exist.’
Depp told Elle last month, ‘It’s weird to me to reduce somebody to the idea that they’re only there because it’s a generational thing.
‘It just doesn’t make any sense. If somebody’s mom or dad is a doctor, and then the kid becomes a doctor, you’re not going to be like, “Well, you’re only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.” It’s like, “No, I went to medical school and trained.'”
