‘Well, you guys can see we get to feed her today. She’s off of her ventilator,’ the dad-of-three softly shared while feeding his baby girl. ‘We’re going to try to move her to a crib today. We might get to hold her today.’

Road to recovery: Cory Wharton, 31, shared the great news that his seven-month-old daughter Maya has been taken off a ventilator and that he was able to fed her himself
Wharton, who can be seen in the video leaning over his little girl to hold her bottle in place, then shifted his attention to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers during this incredibly heart-wrenching time for his family.
‘This girl is trending upwards and that’s what we wanted. And I just wanted to show you this video quick. Let you guys know that your prayers were heard,’ he said while looking straight at the camera, at times.
‘I just want to say thank you guys, and let’s continue this upward trajectory and we will be alright,’ he added.
‘So, appreciate you guys, Maya is doing just fine, and we’ll get through,’ he ended the post, which was capped off with a kiss on her forehead.

Heartwarming: Wharton also shared a close-up clip of him feeding Maya with the catchy chorus from The Temptations’ hit song My Girl (1964) playing in the background
In the caption of the clip, Wharton reiterated that ‘Maya is off the ventilator’ and that ‘she’s no longer intubated’, which are both great signs of recovery.
Maya’s mother, Taylor Selfridge, also took to her Instagram page to update everyone on the good news.
‘She’s doing great today. We had to get over a little rough patch but she’s looking amazing now,’ the grateful mom confessed. ‘She extubated (breathing on her own), awake, eating, & trying to play. Just pain management & trying to wing her off the oxygen.’
Later on Friday, Selfridge took returned to Instagram share that the hospital staff found Maya’s stuffed bunny today that had been missing since the surgery earlier this week.
‘I was sad bc she’ll see it in all her surgery/hospital photos when she’s older so I wanted to keep it for her,’ the eternally grateful mom shared.
Dad’s love: The proud dad ended the clip by giving Maya a sweet kiss on her forehead
Adorable: After eating from a bottle, Maya took a nap with the assistance of her teddy bear
Resting: ‘Rest & more rest I’m glad she loves the bear we got her,’ the reality star shared
Wharton actually kicked off his flurry of Instagram posts by sharing a close-up video of Maya as he fed her, while the catchy chorus from The Temptations’ hit song My Girl (1964) played in he background.
‘I guess you’d say – What can make me feel this way – My girl, my girl, my girl – Talkin’ ’bout my girl – My girl,’ lead vocalist David Ruffin sang with the help of his band mates.
This appears to be the second planned open-heart surgery for Maya, who previously had surgery performed just days after she was born in June to correct her tricuspid atresia.
The congenital heart defect occurs when the heart’s tricuspid valve is underdeveloped, which prevents oxygen-poor blood from being properly pumped to the lungs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Mom’s relief: Maya’s mom, Taylor Selfridge, also shared the good news on her Instagram page, writing,”She’s doing great today’ and that ‘we had to get over a little rough patch’
Great news: Selfridge, 28, also revealed that Maya is ‘extubated (breathing on her own), awake, eating & trying to play’ in the short video clip she shared
Lost and found: Later on Friday, Selfridge took back to Instagram reveal that the hospital staff found Maya’s stuffed bunny today that had been missing since the surgery earlier this week
Friday’s encouraging updates came just one day after he sounded worried in a clip, in which he tells his social media followers: ‘Maya’s doing okay, She’s not doing great.”
In fact, a doctor had her sedated because her left lung has some fluid in it, which made it difficult for her to breathe on her own.
But she has since taken great strides over the last 24 hours, allowing for her to be off her ventilator and eating from a bottle.
The couple had been anticipating this latest surgery for months, and along the way admitted that the level of anxiety had been building.
‘I just can’t wait for her heart to be fixed,’ Wharton previously shared on Instagram. ‘Then we can move on from this chapter. Again thank you all, & I’ll keep you all updated.’
In addition to Maya, Wharton and Selfridge also share two-year-old daughter Mila. Wharton also shares his daughter Ryder, five, with his ex-partner, Cheyenne Floyd.
