Jordan De Goey is really on ‘ANGER LEAVE’ from Collingwood: Star was ‘forced into apology video and is furious with club’

  • Jordan De Goey is reportedly fuming with Collingwood’s handling of his saga
  • The 26-year-old apologised for his wild antics in Bali on a mid-season break
  • He had initially denied any wrongdoing in a dramatic backflip this week
  • De Goey is on personal leave but is said to be unwilling to return to the club
  • His contract expires at the end of the year and both parties seem happy to part

Jordan De Goey is reportedly furious with Collingwood Football Club for their handling of his Bali saga with the 26-year-old unwilling to return to the Pies after his personal leave.

De Goey’s Collingwood future is in serious doubt after the club reportedly withdrew a lucrative contract offer after video emerged of the troubled star attempting to expose a woman’s breast on a night out in Bali during the mid-season break.

The midfielder issued a public apology on Friday after being hit with a suspended $25,000 fine and granted personal leave, meaning he will not be available to play against GWS Giants on Sunday.

His apology is a dramatic backflip from his initial statement when the Bali video first surfaced, in which he called out the media for ‘the relentless pursuit and persecution of athletes’. There have been suggestions that De Goey was ‘forced’ into making the  apology video.

And while Pies boss Craig McRae said he wanted ‘to put my arms around him’ in an emotional public show of support, De Goey is reportedly uninterested in embracing the club.

SEN football journalist Sam Edmund told AFL360 De Goey is ‘so angry with Collingwood that he has no interest in walking through the doors right now’.

‘They call it mental health leave, but it could easily be described as anger leave,’ Edmund said.

‘It’s not surprising given his statement about ‘this persecution, the relentless pursuit of the media has to stop’. And then you do a stark 180 to then turn around and say you take full responsibility for your actions in a video the Collingwood football club make you do.

‘That is a massive about face that the player has had to swallow in a short period of time. Hence the delay in all this coming to light. I think you could absolutely run the narrative that Jordan De Goey is unhappy with Collingwood.’

It was further clarified that De Goey is happy with club chiefs rather than any individual in the football department.

When discussing whether the 26-year-old will be at the club next year, Edmund replied: ‘Not unless his anger heals or subsides at Collingwood.

‘And there’s a school of thought that maybe Collingwood are just happy to let him go – given there’s the fee agency compensation that would come back the other way.’

Should De Goey become available as a free agent, St Kilda are understood to lead the race for the midfielder, with Brett Ratten publicly lavishing praise on his talent.

Meanwhile, North Melbourne, Geelong and Port Adelaide have also publicly revealed that they would consider recruiting De Goey, and Essendon are understood to be in a position to make a play.
