Jonnie Irwin‘s beloved wife Jessica has detailed the sweet way she tells him she loves him every day in his brave fight against cancer.
The A Place In The Sun presenter, 50, was given just six months to live when he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, which has spread to his brain, in August 2020, and publicly shared his prognosis in December.
In a heartbreaking interview, the couple, who have three children; son Rex, three and twins Rafa and Cormac, two, talk about the hardships they are facing, with Jessica admitting she can’t bare the thought of being a widower and single mum.
Jonnie, who says he is ‘very weak’, has continued with work as he hadn’t taken out critical condition cover on his life insurance.
When the TV star goes away, Jessica reveals she slips him a little note in his washbag ‘just telling him how proud I am of him’.

‘I keep telling him that no matter how much he tries and stresses himself out, there’s still going to be the s*** that will come after,’ she tells The Sun.
‘I keep saying, “Do what makes you happy, if you want to do something just do it”. I just want to be able to bring any bit of fun and enjoyment back into his life which is really hard to do, especially with the reality of how much he’s struggling on a day-to-day basis.’
Jessica admits she’s in denial about Jonnie’s diagnosis and feels so angry about ‘how much cancer has ruined the past few years’.
The mother-of-three refuses to entertain the idea of meeting someone else in the future after Jonnie gave his blessing.
‘I can think of the support I’ll need and that sort of thing but when it comes to me, my life is the boys. That’s enough for me. That’s where my thinking stops, it terrifies me that I’m suddenly going to be in a house on my own, the sole adult with three young boys. The prospect of being a single mum and a widow is awful to think about,’ she says.
Jessica says her heart is ‘completely broken’ as she fell in love with Jonnie when they first started dating in 2015 because ‘he would be an amazing dad and life partner’.
Jonnie, meanwhile, says he is trying to make as many memories as possible with his family and plans to make videos and voice clips for his boys’ future birthdays.
The TV host is trying alternative therapies in a bid to prolong his life from a strict diet to oxygen chamber treatments.

A hyperbaric chamber is a highly-pressurized room or tube where a patient is given pure oxygen to breathe.
At this higher air pressure, the lungs are able to take in more oxygen than under normal conditions.
Jonnie shared a snap of the zip up portable chamber he was using after walking to the treatment centre via the high level bridge in Newcastle.
Writing: ‘And at the end of this walk…is this…hyperbaric oxygen therapy.’
It’s believed flooding the body with concentrated oxygen can help make cancer cells easier to kill with treatments like chemotherapy and radiation while also activating the healing process in your body.
However other studies have seen mixed and inconclusive results in the past with some believing it ineffective.
Jonnie also recently changed his diet after taking health advice from mentor and fellow cancer sufferer Jane McLellend, who has written a book about how to starve cancer.
Jane from Fulham is a stage four cancer survivor and number one bestselling author and who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer aged 35, and was given a one-in-20 chance of surviving five years.
He said earlier this year: ‘It’s inspired me to change my lifestyle and importantly given me hope in an otherwise hopeless situation. Don’t get me wrong – it’s bloody hard but I’m on board!’

TV presenter Jonnie Irwin has revealed he is suffering with terminal cancer, saying he hopes sharing his terminal cancer diagnosis will inspire others to ‘make the most of every day’
Born in 1973, Jonnie Irwin grew up in Bitteswell, Leicestershire, and attended Lutterworth Grammar School and Community College before becoming an estate agent.
In 2004, Irwin was selected from hundreds of applicants alongside co-presenter Jasmine Harman to present Channel 4’s show A Place In The Sun – Home Or Away. The property programme was a surprise hit and syndicated widely. Irwin also regularly presents the BBC’s Escape To The Country and To Buy Or Not To Buy.
In January 2011, Sky 1 broadcast Irwin’s own show called Dream Lives for Sale, in which he helped people leave their lives in the UK in order buy their dream business.
Later that year, he started a new series The Renovation Game which aired on weekday mornings on Channel 4.
Outside of presenting, he is also a commercial director for Judicare, which describes itself as a ‘specialist law firm providing clients with legal advice on all matters related to overseas property’.
Irwin married Jessica Holmes in September 2016. Together they have three sons and lived in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire before moving to Newcastle.
On November 13, Irwin was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. He told Hello magazine: ‘I don’t know how long I have left, but I try to stay positive and my attitude is that I’m living with cancer, not dying from it.’
