Dolly Parton publicly grieved her friend Leslie Jordan during a guest appearance on his sitcom Call Me Kat on Thursday evening.

The 76-year-old country music legend and occasional actress wasn’t playing a part, but instead taped a message directed to the late comic actor that led into a clips package featuring some of his best moments on the comedy series.

Jordan tragically died in October at age 67 when he crashed his car into a building following a medical emergency that occurred while he was driving.

Parton opened her segment by singing a verse of the songWhere The Soul Never Dies, which she had recorded with Jordan for his 2021 album Company’s Comin’, which featured his forays into country music.

Dolly was dressed in a black suit with white accents on the lapels and pearls around the sleeve cuffs, and she was seated in a white chair next to a vase full of flowers.

Rather than speaking about Jordan, she addressed her remarks directly to the late Will & Grace actor.

‘I know usually at a memorial, people talk about somebody. Well, I’m going to talk to you,’ Parton said to the camera. ‘Because there is that place on the other side, and I’m certainly going to see you there, little brother. You left a lot of people here with a lot of precious, precious memories. Everybody loved you, but I doubt many of them loved you more than I did.’

The Jolene singer made it clear that she thought Jordan would want his friends and fans to take joy in his life, rather than being overwhelmed by sorrow at his death.

‘I just want you to know that we all love you, we all miss you, and I bet you’re having a big laugh over all of us being sad and sorrowful. And I know that would be the last thing you would want us to be,’ she said. ‘You made us happy while you were here, and we’re happy that you’re at peace. I just want you to know that I will always love you. Goodbye, my sweet Leslie.’

As a conclusion, she sang, ‘I will always love you,’ to the melody of her iconic song of the same name.

She previously honored her friend days after his death with a social media post.

‘Well I am as hurt and shocked as if I have lost a family member,’ she wrote. ‘Leslie and I had a special bond, I think the world felt they had a special bond with him. I know people always say, “Oh, they will be missed” but in this case that could not be more true. He will be missed by everyone who knew him personally and by everyone who was entertained by him. Rest in peace lil’ brother.’

Call Me Kat stars The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik as a woman who uses money her parents had been saving up to pay for her wedding and instead puts it toward opening a cat themed café.

Jordan was a main cast member and appeared as the head baker of the café.

Thursday’s episode was titled Call Me Philliam, after his character Phil, and the rest of the episode served as a tribute to him.

The series paused production for two weeks after Jordan’s death, both to grieve him and to rewrite the next episode to honor him.

In addition to Parton’s appearance, Jordan’s friend Vicki Lawrence made a guest appearance as his oft-discussed but previously never-seen mother Lurlene Crumpler.

‘We’re still grieving,’ Bialik told Entertainment Weekly earlier this week ahead of the episode airing. She added that the episode ‘would both celebrate him and honor him in a way that we hope is respectful.’
