Jessica Chastain trips on the stairs as she wins SAG Award for George & Tammy

Jessica Chastain is getting compared to Jennifer Lawrence, after briefly tripping over her dress on her way to accept the SAG Award for Best Female Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries.

Following her nasty tumble up the steps, the 45-year-old actress received some much-needed assistance from Irish actor Paul Mescal and a man in the front row, who also rushed to her aid.

Almost immediately, Twitter users were quick to comment about the similarity between her fall and Lawrence’s infamous nosedive at the Academy Awards back in 2013.

Once she was back on her feet, the Oscar winner made a speedy recovery and went on to deliver an inspirational speech, honoring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

During her speech, the mother-of-two, who scooped up the same award at last year’s ceremony, was honored for her role as Tammy Wynette in George and Tammy.

As she accepted the trophy, the performer offered a motivational message to aspiring and struggling actors as she said: ‘I’m doing a show right now in New York, I’m doing A Doll’s House and every day after the show I get to meet people at the stage door and I meet a lot of actors, who tell me their stories and it reminds me of when I was in college.’

‘Philip Seymour Hoffman came to speak to my class and I told all his frustrating stories about auditions and he encouraged us to keep going even when we thought no one was watching us,’ she continued. ‘And he said at the end of the talk, ‘I look forward to working with each of you’. It really shocked me because it was like he brought it into being. A few years later it came true and I had the opportunity to do a play with him.’

‘I’m telling this story right now because it reminds me of how powerful our mind is and what our thoughts can do, so I want to tell everyone who might be struggling at home, to all the actors I get to meet, ‘Keep going, you’re one job away. I look forward to working with you, I’ll see you on set and I love you,’ Chastain told viewers.

Jessica paid tribute to her fellow nominees, Emily Blunt (The English), Julia Garner (Inventing Anna), Niecy Nash Betts (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout) before pledging to share her award with co-star Michael Shannon.

She said: ‘Thank you so much to the Screen Actors Guild Awards, I just have to recognise my fellow nominees -Amanda, Emily, Julia, Niecy – I have seen all of your performances and I am in awe of you and your talent, they’re amazing…I share this with Michael Shannon, who I believe is one of our greatest working actors.’

‘It was a dream collaboration from day one and I wouldn’t have got to day two without his support,’ she concluded.

She didn’t seem too fazed by her fall as she explained that she was momentarily ‘trapped’ in her gown before some ‘very nice men’ helped her up.

‘I am the one who never expects this is going to happen,’ she told ET after accepting the win. ‘Yeah, I fell on the stairs, that’s good because some people didn’t know that I did.’

Chastain wore a voluminous fuchsia gown, adorned with vertical ruffles down the front, to the star-studded ceremony.

Her nearly waist-length red tresses cascaded down her back in pin-straight strands.

Jessica’s makeup artist Kristofer Buckle used products from Charlotte Tilbury to achieve the actress’s look for the evening – which was ‘inspired by a punk princess’, he revealed.

‘Today’s look was inspired by a punk princess, matching her lips to her Gucci gown, and choosing a fierce black winged liner on her upper lid,’ he revealed – explaining that he used the Charlotte Tilbury Feline Flick in Panther to get that perfect wing on her eyes, while her lip color was created using the K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Velvet Underground.

‘I also added the new Hollywood Glow Glide Highlighter in Moonlit Glow to her shoulders and décolletage,’ Kristofer added, while the newly-launched Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wand accentuated the actress’s natural glow.

The Molly’s Game is nominated for Showtime’s miniseries about George Jones and Tammy Wynette, which aired its finale episode in December.

The show reunited her and Michael Shannon, who she starred with in the 2011 psychological thriller Take Shelter.

The show follows Tammy and George as they thunder through drugs, fights and even – in her case – shock therapy.

The duo had a dramatic and explosive marriage from 1969 to 1975, scarred by problems including his galloping alcoholism.
