‘I think it’s the best thing that’s hit TV!’ Jane McDonald drops a huge hint she’d like to appear as a judge on hit show RuPaul’s Drag Race

Jane McDonald has dropped a huge hint that she’d loved to be a part of a television show, a step away from her usual travel programmes.

The singer, 59, whose Channel 5 series Cruising with Jane McDonald has seen her visit a number of far flung destinations around the world since 2017, has set her sights on BBC Three’s RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Jane – who rose to fame as the resident songstress on Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Galaxy ship on BBC series The Cruise in 1998 – says she feels an affinity with the Drag Race queens as she says she styles herself in a similar way.

She told Entertainment Daily: ‘I think it’s the best thing that’s hit TV, because it’s brought a complete new genre into our industry, which has been given the light it should have had for an awful long time.

‘I just love it and I get a lot of my hairstyles and make-up tips from the show and I look at the queens sometimes and think, oh my God, that’s me.

‘I’ve got the big hair, I love the shoulder pads, I love all that – I might do a bit of padding myself.

‘I’ve always said, if I wasn’t a woman, I’d be a man in drag, absolutely, I love being camp.’

It comes after Jane spoke out about her love life, admitting she has no plans to date again because she doesn’t want to ‘settle down’, following the death of her fiancé Eddie Rothe.

The performer said that although she wouldn’t rule out ever going on a date again, she is ‘quite happy’ with her life and has no plans for another relationship.

But she went on to reflect on how ‘grateful’ she feels for having the ‘best’ relationship with Eddie, who died at the age of 67 from lung cancer in March 2021.

She told Entertainment Daily last month: ‘The last thing that I want to do is settle down again, because the girls and I can go out and do things and go everywhere we want to.

‘That’s one thing that I’ve learned with grief, when you’re on your own, you don’t have to worry about compromising.

‘I’m not saying I’ll never go on a date again, but I’m quite happy with my life and it has turned out – I mean, I definitely had the best [with Ed] and I’m very grateful that I had the best.’

Jane said she is married to her work and insisted finding a man is not on her priorities list as she spoke about the year ahead, which will see her celebrate her 60th birthday.

Eddie proposed to Jane on Christmas Eve 2008, after becoming an item earlier that year.

The pair were together briefly years before, splitting in 2002 before rekindling the romance six years later – but never got the chance to tie the knot before his tragic passing.
