Riding for a fall? The Gold actor Jack Lowden pictured checking his phone as he cycles through London without a helmet

He routinely threw caution to the wind as eager MI5 agent River Cartwright in Slow Horses.

And it seems Jack Lowden may share his character’s disregard for danger.

The actor was pictured without a helmet and using his phone while cycling in north London.

Lowden, 32, also plays murderous money launderer Kenneth Noye in The Gold – a new drama about the 1980s Brink’s-Mat robbery.

Dressed in a fluffy brown coat, the actor eschewed a helmet in favour of headphones and a woolly hat.

Cyclists are not legally required to wear a helmet and there is no legislation banning them from using a phone.

The Scottish actor was also spotted without a helmet last year in east London while cycling with actress girlfriend Saoirse Ronan, 28.

The pair, who recently bought a £2.5million three-bedroom house in north London, were meeting Lowden’s ballet-dancer brother Calum and a friend at a bar.

Jack recently wowed viewers of the new BBC1 drama The Gold with his portrayal of Kenneth Noye.

BBC1’s The Gold tells the story of the aftermath of the biggest armed heist in British history – the robbery of gold bullion worth £26million.

The series also stars Hugh Bonneville and Dominic Cooper.

Viewers have been so blown away by his performance, they have been left wondering if he could be tipped to play the next James Bond .

It’s been a slow rise to fame for Jack, who once dreamed of becoming a footballer and attended stage school in Edinburgh as a teen before landing roles in Irn Bru adverts and local plays.

But after landing his big break in 2016’s War and Peace, he became a household name, appearing in Mary Queen of Scots in 2018, where he met his girlfriend Saorise Ronan, and more recently appeared with Gary Oldman in the drama Slow Horses.

Alongside his brother Calum, Jack ended up attending Manor School of Ballet in Edinburgh.

However football was his one true love, and he dreamed of becoming a professional.

He explained: ‘I wanted to be a footballer. It absolutely broke my heart when I realised I wasn’t going to be one.’

‘If someone waved a wand and I was able to play football really well, I’d bite their hand off and do that, over this [acting].’
