Is this dress too white for a wedding? People say it’s not a ‘safe’ choice and ‘uppity guests’ might gossip about me

A woman has sparked a debate online after she asked if her floral summer dress was too white for a wedding.

The anonymous woman, believed to be from the UK, took to Reddit to share a picture of the gown and explained that she was considering wearing it for a outdoor ceremony in April.

However opinions were divided with some claiming the dress was perfectly fine to wear because it was floral, while others said it was ‘too white’.

The user, posting under the name @lookingformyduck, shared a few snaps of the smocked bodice dress which retails at £404 from Revolve.

She wrote: ‘Is this too white for an outdoor wedding in April? thanks in advance!’

One person wrote: ‘I personally think it’s fine. Nobody is mistaking you for the bride if you wear this. People here are so picky sometimes. “Oh noooo it’s LIGHT GRAY with massive pink flowers! You might as well go up to the altar and make out with the groom” …but you do risk that some uppity guests might gossip about you.’

Another said: ‘I think it’s completely fine. The flowers are large and colorful. I wouldn’t even describe this as a white dress. It’s a pink multi-floral dress.’

Someone else wrote: ‘No one is mistaking this for a wedding dress, but if you’re unsure, ask the bride.

‘Also, you can pair it with a pink shawl – that’ll further pull it away from white and help if it’s chilly.’

While a fourth wrote: ‘I think this is alright, it’s definitely pink with flowers. It’s very pretty and with a wrap in solid pink and jewellery it’s perfect for an outdoor spring wedding.’

While another said: ‘Too white. Avoid anything that has a white base color, or close off-whites like cream, champagne, blush, etc.

‘Depending on your complexion, find a tulip (the flower) color such as yellow, orange, or purple for an April wedding. Mauve or navy blue would also look nice.’

Someone else wrote: ‘Way too white. Pick a dress with no white and not near white in the palette and you’ll be safe.’
