- Sir Graham Brady, MP of Altrincham, called the idea ‘obviously inappropriate’
- Plan is to home 112 male immigrants in Ashley Hotel in Hale, Altrincham
- The village is home to Premier League footballers and showbiz celebrities

An MP has called a plan to house more than 100 male asylum seekers in a town where the Real Housewives of Cheshire is filmed and Premier League stars live ‘obviously inappropriate’.
Sir Graham Brady, local MP of Altrincham, Cheshire, has spoken out against the proposal to lodge 112 male immigrants who arrived by a small boat in France in Ashley Hotel in Hale.
The village is home to Premier League footballers and showbiz celebrities, with Italian supercars and Rolls Royces a common sight within the area, which was rated among the best places to live by The Sunday Times.
The hotel is also only 300 metres away from where Cristiano Ronaldo and the Manchester United squad had lunch last year.
The plan is to lodge 112 male immigrants who arrived by a small boat in France in Ashley Hotel in Hale, Altrincham – one of the richest areas in Britain
Sir Graham Brady, local Conservative MP of Altrincham, Cheshire, branded the plan ‘obviously inappropriate’
But from January 15 stars of MU and Manchester City – as well as Coronation Street cast members – could be sharing a place once described as a residential ‘utopia’ with the male migrants, who will be given three meals a day and just £9 spending money per week.
Sir Brady told Altrincham Today that he had first heard about the proposal in November and requested a meeting with Home Secretary Suella Braverman.
MP Brady said he considered the Ashley Hotel to be the ‘most obviously inappropriate location you could imagine’.
‘Putting over 100 young unemployed men in the centre of a busy residential village such as Hale would clearly be inappropriate and the proposals have caused considerable disquiet,’ he said.
The area is where the Real Housewives of Cheshire was filmed and is also home to Premier League football stars and Coronation Street stars
‘It’s clear to me that there must be better facilities for housing such as group which I am told would be comprised mostly of illegal immigrants who have crossed the channel on small boats typically from safe countries, firstly France and then previously mainly Albania.’
MP Brady said he is still pursuing a meeting with the Home Secretary.
One local resident in Hale said: ‘People here are furious about it. They are concerned that it’s an entirely male group of men who worry about how they’ll spend their time here when they’ll have so little money to spend.’
However, another local told MailOnline: ‘As residents we need to be careful not to appear hostile when these people are coming here in dire circumstances.

‘The fact that it’s an entirely male group is a little concerning but we need to do our best to show some compassion.’
A Home Office spokesperson said: ‘The number of people arriving in the UK who require accommodation has reached record levels and has put our asylum system under incredible strain.
‘The use of hotels to house asylum seekers is unacceptable – there are currently more than 37,000 asylum seekers in hotels costing the UK taxpayer £5.6million a day.

‘The use of hotels is a temporary solution, and we are working hard with local authorities to find appropriate accommodation.’
The Ashley Hotel is owned by Hale-headquartered Britannia Hotels, which was declared by Which? in November to be the worst hotel chain in the UK for the 10th consecutive year.
It has previously sparked controversy for housing asylum seekers in some of its 60-plus hotels across the country, including those in Wigan and Nottingham in recent years.
MailOnline has approached Sir Brady for comment.
