Boy George was the fourth campmate to be evicted from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on Tuesday’s episode.
The singer, 61, was named in the bottom two after the public had cast their votes along with radio DJ Chris Moyles, 48.
After hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, the Culture Club star hugged his campmates and told them: ‘I’ll tell you what it’s like when it’s out.’
Farewell: Boy George, 61, was the fourth campmate to be evicted from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on Tuesday’s episode
In his exit interview, the pop star said: ‘I am sort of ready. I had an amazing time and I’ve done a lot of things I thought I’d never do. I’m excited to see my sister.’
George described his time in the jungle as ‘beautifully challenging’ and ‘somewhat enlightening’, saying it had allowed him to go on an ‘inner journey’.
On how he managed to keep himself sane in the camp, he said: ‘I had to forget who I was the whole time I was in here, I had to let it go. I just had to get over it.
Clash of the titans: George found himself in the bottom two of the public vote along with radio DJ Chris Moyles
‘I just had to say, “I’m in the jungle, I’ve had no control.”‘
He added: ‘Being really honest, I am happy to go today. It’s not something I thought I would ever do but it’s a lot tougher than I thought.
‘I think it really makes you appreciate what you have and the people that you love.’
HIs champions: George said he would like to see former rugby player Mike Tindall or ex footballer Jill Scott win the show
End of the road: George looked please to be arriving for his chat with Ant and Dec after he left the jungle
The musician said he would like to see former rugby player Mike Tindall or ex footballer Jill Scott win.
Of Mike, he said: ‘He’s been the most stoic, he’s done the most. I think he’s much wilder than he lets on,’ before concluding: ‘I think Mike or even Jill.’
George’s departure prompted a mixed reaction from fans, with many taking to social media to express their opinion.
Family affair: The star posed with his sister Siobhan after his sibling jetted out to Australia to meet George as he departed the camp
Experience: George said of his time on the show: ‘Being really honest, I am happy to go today. It’s not something I thought I would ever do but it’s a lot tougher than I thought.
Agreeing with the public vote for George to leave, one person wrote on Twitter: ‘Hilarious! He’s out because he’s been relentlessly spiteful and nasty. It’s not complicated.’
Referring to politician Matt Hancock remaining on the reality show longer than George, another person tweeted: ‘Boy George learns he’s LESS popular than the Health Secretary after a major pandemic! Hilarious.’
Another viewer who was pleased to see George go wrote: ‘I am glad that boy George is out. I believe in kindness and I want to see people being kind to Matt Hancock.’
Speaking out:Â George’s departure prompted a mixed reaction from fans, with many taking to social media to express their opinion
Someone else shared: ‘So glad Boy George went before matt bet he’s well shocked by the public.’
‘I’m glad Boy George is out! I’m glad Matt is still in! Good night all round,’ posted another viewer.
While someone else wrote: ;One bully left. Then we’ll have a nice camp for the first time this year!!!! Nasty bully! Glad you’re gone! Less popular than Matt Hancock!!!’Â Â
Fans: George’s devotees took to Twitter to say how much they had enjoyed watching the star on the show
However, not all viewers were unimpressed, with one person writing: ‘@BoyGeorge you were fab, fab, fab on the jungle!! Sorry to see you go, you made the show for me.’
Another fan shared: ‘I thought Boy George was fabulous. Straight talking, not afraid of confrontation & game for a laugh. Granted he’s a bit of a diva, I think it adds to his charm.’
‘I thought he was great – individual and entertaining – there are a couple of beautiful ppl in there namely Owen and Jill and the rest are dull’, shared another viewer. ‘In a world where we try and encourage ppl to be who they are there is a lot of hate for Boy George – totally himself and respect to that.’
Looking back: George, 61, recalled how his father tried to humble him ahead of a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall during Tuesday’s episode of I’m A Celebrity
Another viewer shared: ‘@BoyGeorge So sorry to see you go out tonight, George. You and Jill were the only reason I kept watching. Good luck and God blessxx.’Â
It came after George told his campmates his success was shrugged off by his father Jeremiah earlier in the episode.
He said his parent’s tactic was to try and keep him down to earth after he found fame.
When asked by comedian Babatúndé Aleshe: ‘What was your dad’s reaction when you made it?’, George replied: ‘I was playing at the Albert Hall and it was kind of a big gig, it was kind of early on and my sister’s best friend’s husband said to my dad, “You must be really proud of him?”
Family affair: George (centre) is pictured with his father Jeremiah (left) and mother Dinah in 1985
‘My dad goes, “Yeah, he does what he does and I do what I do.”‘
George added in the Bush Telegraph: ‘I think that comment was about, “Don’t blow smoke up his a*** because it’s not good for him.”‘
The singer, whose dad died in 2003, continued at the creek: ‘Or my mum used to say, “You never say you love me” and he’d say, “I’m here aren’t I?”‘
Babatúndé said: ‘This generation, all we do is tell our children that we love them.’
Opening up: The campmates were talking about generational differences within their families, with George saying his dad didn’t show as much emotion as parents might today
But George replied: ‘You should… my dad was a builder, owned his own firm. He was a gambler. He would take £10,000 and put it on a dog. Dad would say, “Don’t answer the door… the bailiffs, or the gas man was coming… .”‘
Born George Alan O’Dowd at Barnehurst Hospital, Kent, on 14 June 1961, the singer’s parents are Irish couple Jeremiah and Dinah O’Dowd.
George, who has four brothers and one sister, grew up in Eltham, London
