Gold Coast City Council has refused to reveal how much they spent to host the new season of The Bachelors in the city.

According to the Courier Mail, the council struck a deal with Channel 10 to film the tenth season of the show in the city as part of its Screen Attraction Program.

The series was filmed at a $14.5million waterfront mansion on the Gold Coast after production moved from Sydney.

A council spokeswoman told the publication the deal was made to showcase the city and bring ‘economic benefits’.

The property is a change from the $6.3million ‘French chateau’ in Dural, in Sydney’s west, used for Jimmy Nicholson’s season.

Before Dural, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette were filmed at a $2.3million property in Oxford Falls, in Sydney’s north.

It comes after the new season of the dating show failed to impress on its premiere on Monday night.

The tenth season premiere had a five-city metro audience of 309,000 viewers, with 405,000 viewers nationally.

Channel 10’s streaming partner Paramount+ claimed the national ratings were even bigger than that, tweeting 439,000 had tuned in across the country.

The Bachelors was also a hit on social media with #thebachelorsau becoming the top trending hashtag in Australia.

In a franchise first, the tenth season features three suitors – Felix Von Hofe, Jed McIntosh and Thomas Malucelli – searching for love.
