Prince Louis has won himself a legion of fans with his cheeky antics in 2022.

The youngest Wales child, four, has a talent for stealing the show at royal engagements – and he was on particularly fine form for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.

Louis was spotted grumpily covering his ears during a flyover at Trooping the Colour, and was scolded by his older sister Charlotte, seven, for waving too much in a carriage procession.

But his real pièce de résistance came a few days later, when the young prince sat with his family in the royal box to watch the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pageant

Here, he was caught on camera sticking his tongue out at his mother, now the Princess of Wales, and pretending to be a lion in a particularly energetic moment.

His antics caught the attention of royal fans again in September, when Louis refused to hold his father Prince William’s hand as he arrived for his first day at school.

Here, FEMAIL rounds up Prince Louis’ best moments from the past year.

Star performance on Buckingham Palace balcony

One of the most memorable moments from Prince Louis came in June, when he stood with members of the Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

The Trooping the Colour marked the start of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations – but it was Louis who really stole the show with his grumpy display.

His reaction to the Queen’s Birthday Parade took the internet by storm.

The prince’s moods ranged wildly from excitement, to annoyance and despair as the youngest Wales child watched the fly past from a spot right next to the late Queen.

Louis even chatted with his great grandmother briefly as RAF planes flew by, before angrily covering his ears when the noise became too much to handle.

Royal fans on social media found his ever-changing moods extremely relatable, with images of the prince pulling hilarious faces circulating online for months.

Told off by Charlotte in a royal carriage ride

There was another hilarious moment on June 2, when Prince Louis, Prince George and Princess Charlotte arrived at the Palace with their mother and Queen Consort Camilla.

The three children had all waved joyfully at waiting crowds as they made their carriage debut – but Charlotte wasn’t shy about correcting her younger brother.

When both George, nine, and Charlotte stopped waving, Louis continued, grinning at the waiting crowds who had queued for a glimpse of the Royal Family.

But Charlotte quickly spotted her brother’s faux pas, and pushed his hand into his lap to put a stop to the enthusiastic display.

Prince Louis later followed his older siblings’ lead as they bowed their heads to receive a salute when the royal procession returned to Buckingham Palace.

Making faces at the Platinum Jubilee pageant

Prince Louis again stole hearts – and went viral on social media – when he joined the Royal Family to watch the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pageant on June 5.

It would be a long day for any four year old – and Louis was in dire need of entertainment.

Throughout the event, he was caught on camera sticking his tongue out at his mother, now the Princess of Wales, and pretending to be a lion in a particularly energetic moment.

Later, the tables turned, and it seemed the young boy was nearly falling asleep.

There was even a moment Louis put his hand over his mother’s mouth when she was talking to him – another image that was widely shared online by royal watchers.

And Charlotte once again showed her bossy side at the event, correcting her younger brother on his behaviour – and pointing it out to their mother.

Too grown up to hold hands with dad

It was a few months later before Prince Louis’ antics hit headlines once again.

This time, the young royal stole the spotlight when he was dropped off for his first day at school.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were taking Louis, his brother George and sister Charlotte for a ‘settling in afternoon’ at Lambrook School in Berkshire when their youngest decided he was too old to hold hands with his father.

Prince William was filmed holding Princess Charlotte’s hand on his left side – and vying for the attention of his youngest with his other.

But Louis seemingly wasn’t interested, and simply ignored William’s efforts.

William gave up after a few moments, instead gently stroking the back of his son’s head – which Louis then shook off.

Refusing to pose for the family Christmas card

The Prince and Princess of Wales shared their annual Christmas card last week, featuring the royals and their three children walking hand-in-hand.

That is, other than Prince Louis, who appeared to decide against holding his older sister’s hand for the casual photograph.

The Christmas picture, taken in private on the royals’ Sandringham Estate in Norfolk earlier this year, was shot by one of their favourite – and trusted – photographers, Matt Porteous

It pictures the family earlier in the year, all dressed casually – with both William and Kate in jeans and all three children wearing shorts for the milder weather.

Louis was happy to hold his mother’s hand – but did not join hands with his sister.

Those on social media found the snap hilarious for this reason, with one writing: ‘Of course it is Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis not actually holding hands.’

Another said: ‘As a younger brother I can totally relate.’

After a year of mischievous antics – and legions of new fans – we can only wonder what Prince Louis might get up to in 2023.
