Hi-de-Hi! actress Ruth Madoc rushed to hospital following shock accident with star forced to pull out of pantomime performances

Hi-de-Hi! star Ruth Madoc was rushed to hospital this week after an accident which has forced her to pull out of her pantomime commitment this winter season.

The actress, 79, who played Gladys Pugh in Hi-de-Hi! from 1980 to 1988, gave fans an update on Friday to reassure them she was on the mend.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, she wrote: ‘Hiya everyone please don’t worry! 

‘I’m well and I’ll soon be back to normal, but unfortunately @princesstheatretorquay won’t get to have The Empress Gladys in the Panto this Christmas!!! 

‘I’m doing really well and will soon be back to normal!’

The screen star also shared a post from bosses at Torquay’s Princess Theatre, which read: ‘Following an accident earlier this week, and after medical assessment, regretfully Ruth Madoc is no longer able to appear in this year’s pantomime of Aladdin at the Princess Theatre in Torquay.

‘Everyone at the theatre wishes Ruth a speedy recovery. 

‘Further announcements regarding casting will take place in due course.’

Taking to the comments section of her post to sent their best wishes, one follower wrote: ‘Wishing you a speedy recovery,’ while another posted: ‘Take care and wishing you a safe recovery.’

Three years ago, Ruth spent three weeks in hospital after her hip and her femur broke in four places.

She told the Belfast Telegraph in 2019: ‘I was doing a warm up on stage and just tripped and I went down.

‘To cut a long story short, I spent two weeks in hospital in Dublin and then another week at home. 

‘The medics are thrilled to bits and have given me their blessing to come back eight months later.’
