A heartbreaking tribute video of Steve Irwin before he died has emerged on his son Robert’s 19th birthday.

The video featured footage of Steve discussing Robert’s birth and that his hopes his son would grow into the next crocodile hunter.

The wildlife conservationist became emotional as he watched the video during his birthday celebrations at Australia Zoo.

In the video, Steve expressed the importance of raising children who would continue his legacy, stating that it would be ‘the proudest moment of my life’.

He also spoke about Robert’s birth, explaining: ‘I’ve lifted him up and, you know, he’s a little bloke and put him on Terri’s chest and we’re just stoked. At that very moment, I saw the light.’

It then showed Robert fulfilling his father’s dream.

After watching the emotional video, Robert said: ‘It means the absolute world… I just think it’s such a privilege, personally and as a family, to continue the legacy of dad.’

Robert continued: ‘More than that he was about family. He was at the end of the day always there for us… he was such an amazing dad.’

He was also presented with a cake in the shape of a camera, in recognition of his passion for photography.

Robert was just two years old when his father passed away after he was stung by a stingray in 2006 at the age of just 44.

Despite losing his father at a young age, Robert has followed in his footsteps and become a wildlife warrior at Australia Zoo.

The Irwin family also keeps Steve’s memory alive by continuing his conservation work.
