The husband of a young newlywed who was killed in an alleged golf buggy accident during their Hamilton Island honeymoon has been charged over her death.

Marina Hanna, 29, married Robbie Awad, aka Robbie Morgan, in a large church ceremony in Sydney on June 11, before heading north to Queensland‘s Whitsundays two days later.

The happy couple spent their luxury trip enjoying poolside cocktails, basking in sun chairs by the water, and a helicopter ride around the island.

A week later, Ms Hanna was dead. Initial reports claimed Mr Awad, 30, was driving the electric buggy with his new wife in the passenger seat, when the vehicle started running out of power on Whitsunday Boulevard.

The couple decided to do a U-turn to go back and charge the buggy, but it allegedly flipped over. Ms Hanna allegedly fell out of the vehicle and onto the road and died on the scene.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal that last Friday, Mr Awad was charged with driving without due care and attention causing death, seatbelt offences and using a mobile phone. He will appear in Prosperine Magistrates Court on December 5.

Daily Mail Australia understands Mr Awad presented himself to Queensland Police last Friday after being asked to hand himself in.

Sources with knowledge of the development broke the news to Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday morning.

In July, Mr Awad said in an interview that his new wife had ‘never looked so beautiful’ as they boarded a helicopter for a special flight over the holiday island on June 19 – the day before the alleged accident.

He initially couldn’t pinpoint why she seemed so radiant. After her death, he said, it all made sense.

‘She was radiating before she left [this life]. ‘It was because God was calling her home,’ he said. ‘She is an angel.

‘There are no two ways about it.’

In a tragic video posted on Instagram before her death, Mr Awad could be seen driving the buggy to the couple’s lavish oceanside resort as his wife films the scenery from the passenger’s seat.

Another clip showed the couple walking across the tarmac as they excitedly board their Qantas plane to Queensland and the interior of their plush resort room once they had arrived.

Following the alleged tragedy, Ms Awad launched a non-for-profit organisation in his wife’s name, designed to ‘spread love, joy and kindness to the world’ – just like his wife did.

‘The foundation will hold two major events every year, each year going forward,’ he said.

‘The first will be a charity ball, the second will be a family fun day, as Marina held family close to her heart always.’

In late June, hundreds of mourners packed into St Mary’s & St Merkorious Coptic Orthodox in Rhodes, in Sydney’s northwest, for Ms Hanna’s funeral.

The date marked exactly three weeks since family and friends had filled the same church to watch her marry the love of her life.

Her brother Mark Hanna told the crowd how he would forever miss his ‘kind-hearted sister’.

‘There are no words that come close to the ache that we feel in our hearts today,’ he said, fighting back the tears, ‘It looks like the heavens are weeping as well.

‘Marina was a sweet, young, independent woman who was loved by everyone who knew her.

‘She was beautiful inside and out, loved to laugh, and always had a positive outlook on life.

After the alleged accident, bystanders including an off-duty firefighter, dentist and doctor, tried for 35 minutes to save her life, but the young woman was in cardiac arrest.

A helicopter was originally called from nearby Townsville to take her to hospital, but was stood down when experts realised the severity of her injuries.
