Gwyneth Paltrow took to her Instagram Story on Friday and responded to the backlash surrounding her now-infamous eating habits and wellness routine.
The Goop founder, 50, sent the internet into a frenzy this week when she appeared on Dr. Will Cole’s podcast The Art of Being Well and discussed intermittent fasting, subsisting on bone broth and vegetables, and religiously sitting in her sauna.
Wearing retro aviator glasses and a white cardigan, Paltrow made a selfie video to address the uproar, telling fans that her various health regimens are because of her chronic struggles with long COVID.
The lifestyle maven also shared that her choices are ‘not meant to be advice for anybody else’ and declared: ‘I eat FAR more than bone broth and vegetables.’
‘I eat full meals,’ Paltrow asserted. ‘And I also have a lot of days of eating whatever I want, and eating french fries and whatever.’

Walking it back: The Goop founder sent the internet into a frenzy this week when she appeared on Dr. Will Cole’s podcast The Art of Being Well and discussed intermittent fasting, subsisting on bone broth and vegetables, and religiously sitting in her sauna
The mogul’s confessional kicked off with her flashing a weary smile at the camera and telling her 8.3 million followers, ‘Hi, okay so let’s jump into this…’
‘I think it’s important for everybody to know that I was doing a podcast with my doctor [Dr. Will Cole]. So, this is a person who I’ve been working with for over two years now, um … to deal with some chronic stuff.
Gwyneth went on to say that she has long COVID and described how the condition ‘manifests’ for her, explaining: ‘The way it manifests for me is very high levels of inflammation over time.
‘So I’ve been working with Dr. Cole to really focus on foods that aren’t inflammatory, right? So lots of vegetables – cooked vegetables – all kinds of protein, healthy carbs to really lower inflammation and it’s been working really well.’
The Shakespeare in Love star went on to say that her vigilant lifestyle is based on ‘medical results and extensive testing,’ explaining that it is tailored to her needs and not meant for anyone else.
‘This was a transparent look at a conversation between me and my doctor. It’s not meant to be advice for anybody else, it’s really just what has worked for me and it’s been very powerful and very positive…’
Hitting back at critics who claimed that she was ‘starving’ herself, Gwyneth said, ‘This is not to say that I eat this way all day every day. And by the way, I eat far more than bone broth and vegetables.’
After naming french fries as an occasional indulgence, the Shallow Hal star said, ‘My baseline is to try to be healthy and to eat foods that will really calm the system down. So, um … I hope that helps.’

Paltrow’s length explanation comes hot on the heels of her viral interview clip, which showed her hooked up to an IV as she raised the collective neck hairs of social media by going over her exhausting wellness routine. Â
‘I eat dinner early in the evening,’ she began. ‘I do a nice intermittent fast. I usually eat something about 12 and in the morning I have things that won’t spike my blood sugar, so I have coffee.
‘But I really like soup for lunch. I have bone broth for lunch a lot of the days. Try to do one hour of movement, so I’ll either take a walk or I’ll do Pilates or I’ll do my Tracy Anderson.Â
‘And then I dry brush and I get in the sauna. So I do my infrared sauna for 30 minutes and then for dinner I try to eat according to paleo – so lots of vegetables. It’s really important for me to support my detox.’
The clip was met with fierce backlash, leading one shocked viewer to ask:Â ‘Is starving wellness?’
‘I feel light headed just listening to this,’ wrote another social media user, while a third simply said: ‘I relate to nothing in this video.’
However, the criticism did not stop there as professional dietitians also weighed in with their own thoughts.
New Jersey nutritionist Lauren Cadillac created a duet with the clip on TikTok to share her reaction to Gwyneth’s revelations.

Almond mom: The health guru described how she fasts until 12 in the afternoon, favoring coffee in the morning, bone broth for lunch, and vegetables for dinner. Gwyneth went on to tell the Art of Being Well host Dr. Will Cole (pictured right) that she does ‘one hour of movement’ before dry brushing her body and sitting in an infrared sauna for 30 minutes
In it, the nutritionist repeatedly rolls her eyes, shakes her head, and gasps before claiming ‘bone broth is not a meal.’
She concludes: ‘This is not enough food. Support you detox from WHAT?! You’re not eating anything.
Lauren uploaded her clip with a caption that read: ‘This isn’t #wellness this is DISORDERED. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH FOOD especially for someone that is 5’9′. Please stop following and listening to celebrities for your health and wellness advice.’
Elsewhere in the podcast, Gwyneth also revealed that the weirdest wellness procedure she had ever done was rectal ozone therapy, which sees the powerful gas delivered via catheter into the colon.
