Two of Australia’s most famous actors appear to be locked in a long-running rivalry, leaving fans shocked as they had no idea there was ‘beef’ between them.
Guy Pearce posted a series of ‘shady’ tweets about Cate Blanchett after she won Best Actress for her performance in Tár at the Critics’ Choice Awards.
When his followers asked what his problem with Blanchett was, Pearce deleted all of the offending tweets on Monday and assured fans there was no feud.

Just over a week ago, Pearce retweeted a post by the Twitter account Celebrity Film Awards that announced the nominees for Best Actress: Blanchett, Ana De Armas, Michelle Williams and Margot Robbie.
Pearce captioned it, ‘Please be Ana De Armas! Incredible performance!’ which appeared innocent enough until his follow-up tweet.
When Blanchett won the award for her role as female composer Lydia Tár, the Memento actor retweeted the announcement and wrote: ‘Fascinating choice…’

He then retweeted a post from a Cate Blanchett fan account that included images of the actress posing for a bondage-inspired photo shoot.
‘Ah, no thanks,’ he wrote.
When Twitter users called Pearce out for his ‘shady’ comments and suggested he had a grudge against the Elizabeth star, he deleted all of his tweets about her.

However, the damage had been done as Twitter sleuths began digging into Pearce’s past to discover why he seemed to have a problem with Blanchett.
They discovered a 2008 interview published by The Age newspaper in which Pearce alluded to a salary gripe with Blanchett, according to 9Honey.

He was set to star in the Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of Poor Boy at the time, but refused to fulfill the same role for the Sydney Theatre Company.
Pearce said he would only do it if Blanchett, who was at the helm of the STC at the time, paid him the same salary she got.
‘If she does, it’ll be the most the STC ever paid an actor. I guarantee,’ he said.
