Glenn Close, 75, bows out as a presenter at the 95th Academy Awards after Covid diagnosis
Glenn Close will be watching the Oscars from the comfort of her home, instead of attending the ceremonies Sunday.
Producers are having to scramble to find a substitute to present in her place after the 75-year-old actress, who has been nominated several times but never won, was diagnosed with Covid, according to the Associated Press.Â
The outlet reported a representative for the Fatal Attraction star said she is ‘is isolating and resting.’
The Damages star was one of some 40 A-list celebrities who had signed to to take part in the 95th Academy Awards Ceremonies at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.Â
Lin-Manuel Miranda had to skip last year’s show after his wife tested positive for Covid-19.Â

The virus has taken its toll on other awards shows, with Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jamie Lee Curtis having to bow out of the Critics Choice awards in January following their participation in the Golden Globes the week before.Â
Variety reported that press covering the Academy Awards were required to test but did not need to provide proof of vaccination.
Those seated for the show inside the Dolby in the orchestra or first balcony also had to test.Â
Glenn has been nominated for an Oscar eight times, most recently in 2021 for her performance Hillbilly Elegy, based on the book written by JD Vance.Â
The story was based on the Senator from Ohio’s childhood.Â
The accomplished actress was first nominated in for her portrayal as Robin Williams’ mother in 1983’s The World According to Garp.Â
The casting was interesting because Glenn was only five years older than the comedian.
