A young woman was ‘confused’ when her boyfriend of three years sent her an Excel spreadsheet asking her to pay $3.23 for the banana and toast she ate while visiting his mum.
In a TikTok series titled ‘men are weird with money’, Maddy Blythe, from Canada, detailed the weird situation with her now ex-boyfriend in a video.
The 26-year-old and her now ex-boyfriend only visited his family once because they lived in different states, and after the trip he sent her a list of all the expenses.

In a TikTok series titled ‘men are weird with money’, Maddy Blythe, from Canada, (pictured) said her now ex-boyfriend emailed her an invoice of $3.23 for the banana and toast she ate at his mum’s house
Recalling the trip, Maddy said it was ‘fine’ because they ‘mostly did their own thing’ but they did eat dinner with his mum one night and breakfast the following morning.
‘Me and my boyfriend ended up paying for dinner because it was a little bit expensive and we wanted to treat his mum,’ she said.
A few days later after arriving home she received an email from her boyfriend that had an Excel document attached to it.
Maddy said they ‘normally’ split expenses using the Excel spreadsheet but this time she noticed the odd inclusion.
‘I did notice there was one line in his Excel document that I was kind of confused about. The line just said ‘breakfast’ for $3.23,’ she continued.
‘So I asked him, “Hey, what is this $3.23 for breakfast?” and he looks at me, deadpan and goes, “Oh well that’s for the banana and piece of toast you ate at my mum’s”.’
‘Excuse me sir?’ She responded.
‘He’s like, “Yeah, you ate that so you owe me and my mum money.
‘This man was dead a** trying to charge me for a banana and a piece of Wonder bread.
‘I asked how he calculated it and he said, “It just seemed fair”.’
While she thought the request was odd Maddy still paid him the small amount of money.
‘I paid it, alright. I gave him the $3.23!’ she said.
Thinking back at the request, Maddy said she ‘would not stand for this s***’ now.
In another video Maddy also revealed the spreadsheet format her ex-boyfriend used. ‘I dug into my emails and found what a typical monthly Excel spreadsheet would look like,’ she said (pictured: the monthly spreadsheet)
In another video Maddy also revealed the spreadsheet format her ex-boyfriend used.
‘I dug into my emails and found what a typical monthly Excel spreadsheet would look like,’ she said.
The spreadsheet was colour-coded and also included the amount Maddy ‘owed’ each month.
Maddy also revealed the ‘very corporate-sounding emails’ they would send each other.
‘He said, “Let me know if there are adjustments, see notes beside expenses, the ones highlighted in yellow are the common ones”,’ Maddy added.
The initial video has since been viewed more than 766,000 times with many branding the behaviour as ‘toxic’.
‘The fact you were okay getting a bill in spreadsheet format from your bf?’ one person commented.
‘How did you not break up with him on the spot?’ another asked.
‘IÂ would never be able to sleep with that man again,’ a third said.
‘I am too stunned to speak. My mind is blown, girl I can’t imagine, you were a guest at his house,’ another added.
