Three people, including a teenager, have been arrested after police launched a murder investigation into the suspicious death of a baby.

The five-week-old boy was rushed to Salisbury District Hospital on September 1 before being pronounced dead on September 9.

Detectives said the baby was initially taken into hospital amid concerns for his welfare. He was in a serious condition and given emergency medical treatment.

Officers today confirmed two women and a man, aged 18, 23 and 54, are suspected of murder and allowing or causing a child to suffer significant harm.

Crime scene investigators, the dog squad and search teams attended an address in Salisbury, Wilts, earlier today as part of the investigation.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: ‘We’ve arrested three people following the death of a five week old baby from the Salisbury area. 

‘The child was admitted to Salisbury District Hospital on September 1 but sadly died on September 9.

‘As a result of our extensive enquiries, we have today arrested an 18-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman in relation to the investigation.’

Enquiries remain ongoing.
