‘This has been harder than giving birth!’ Triumphant Ferne McCann has completed the Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins with Maisie Smith, Calum Best and AJ Pritchard after two weeks on gruelling Jordanian training course
An emotional Ferne said afterwards: ‘I wanted to do this course to see how much I trusted myself and just to test my resilience. And, oh, my God, I’ve tested it. It’s been so hard. Like the hardest. This has been harder than giving birth.
‘Genuinely it’s been so tough emotionally. I definitely kind of lived this cause minute by minute. I didn’t look at it as a whole, and every day I cried. Every day I had doubts. Every day I was like, “can I do it? Is this going to be my turn to leave?”
‘I just kept pushing through and I feel like I’ve got such a sense of achievement and I’ve accomplished something like throughout my whole life, I’ve never felt that I’ve done anything credible, apart from give birth. I’m actually going to cry now.’
Ferne, who is mum to four-year-old Sunday continued: ‘That’s what’s been so hard. It being so all consuming, missing my daughter so much and just thinking, I’ve just got a push through and when she watches this one day, I think she’ll say, “my mum is an absolute queen.”

‘And for me this was really important to do something away from her, but that inspires her. I just kept pushing through and I didn’t quit. And I think that’s what she’s going to really respect and love.’
Maisie added: ‘I joined SAS because I’ve always struggled seeing my inner and outer strength, and I feel like I needed a boost of confidence.
‘And I thought this would be the perfect challenge for me to just get completely out of my comfort zone and see what I’m really made of.
‘I’ve learnt so much about myself, like obviously how strong I can be and also that it’s okay to ask for help and it’s made me more considerate of helping others.
In for the win: Maisie said: ‘I joined SAS because I’ve always struggled seeing my inner and outer strength, and I feel like I needed a boost of confidence’
‘And I’ve never really worked as a team, so it’s been such a nice journey, being amongst such a wonderful group of people, just pushing each other through it. And it was just wonderful.’
An elated AJ said: ‘It feels absolutely epic to have passed selection. I can’t even explain it. It’s just the sheer adrenaline, the nerves, the anxiety of the whole thing. Not knowing when a task is going to finish.
‘And actually having a final end point is just the best feeling in the world. And to be here in Jordan at the top of this monstrous dune just puts it at another level. It’s one of the best achievements of my life. Hands down.’
Calum concluded: ‘I’m on top of the world. You know, like Jesus, I came in here with a plan and like this this goal and this point to prove to myself.

‘But I had to dig so much deeper than I ever imagined. This is on another level than I ever even imagined. So to pass, and make it and see it all the way through to the end.
‘I just am blown away. I feel incredible. I’m shattered. But I’m grateful for this opportunity. And I’m so happy I accomplished the goal I set out to accomplish.’
