Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art which contends the configuration of buildings, objects and spaces can impact your everyday life.
Those who practice the tradition follow certain configuration guidelines to achieve balance and harmony in their lives.
‘Three things I will never allow in my bedroom as a Feng Shui expert,’ Gemma said when she shared her guidance on TikTok.
The first object she told her followers to get rid of is a TV, explaining that the energy radiating from the screen can cause health problems, poor sleep and intimacy problems.
‘The screen acts like a mirror, bouncing energy all around the room at night resulting in poor quality sleep and health problems, and it can also cause intimacy problems between a couple,’ she said.
Jemma also advised against having plants in the bedroom because they ‘just have way too much yang energy’.
Feng Shui focuses on the balance between yin and yang energy, yin is passive and calm, whereas yang is active.Â
‘A bedroom is meant to be a calm, soothing quiet yin environment so if you’re not sleeping well this could be why,’ she said.
The final thing she said you should never have is a fish tank or aquarium.
‘They might look cool, but again there’s way too much yang energy,’ she explained.
Jemma added that even without yang energy, open sources of water can ‘activate negative energy’.
‘Not me having a mirror, TV, and plants surrounding my bed,’ one woman said, echoing the thoughts of many others who admitted they had at least one of the items.
‘Me with three fish tanks in my room,’ another said.
Several people complained that it is ‘impossible’ to Feng Shui your bedroom if you live in a studio.Â
Many people took issue with Jemma’s assertion that plants are bad for you.Â
‘I don’t agree on the plants…I started sleeping better after I added a ton of plant to my room,’ one woman said.Â
