Fashion fanatics have been sent into a frenzy over a bizarre pair of $350 red rubber boots inspired by cartoon character Astro Boy.

The latest footwear design by Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF, being officially released on February 16, has sent the internet wild – but opinions have been divided.

Some have said that they cannot wait to get their hands on a pair, claiming ‘if you couldn’t rock them it’s because you have ugly taste, no style and no pizzazz.’

But others have said that shoppers need to ‘let it go’ and compared the goofy design to characters such as Pac-Man and Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Despite not even being released yet, the resale price for the Big Red Boot has already shot up to more than $1,200 on sites such as StockX.

MSCHF, which was founded in 2016, has gained a reputation for creating both digital and physical designs that mock and warp everyday concepts.

The brand’s wacky creations in the past have included a cologne that smells like WD-40, ‘Eat The Rich Popsicles’ in the shape of iconic plurocrats, and ‘Jesus Shoes’ with holy water sourced from the River Jordan inside the sole.

Its latest meme-worthy creation, the Big Red Boot, is made from TPUrubber shell and EVA foam.

MSCHF itself has branded the shoes as ‘cartoon boots for a cool 3D world’ and the press release notes: ‘If you kick someone in these boots they go BOING!’

It continued: ‘You never design shoes to be shaped like feet. Big Red Boots are REALLY not shaped like feet, but they are EXTREMELY shaped like boots.’

The Big Red Boot has caused quite a stir online with social media being sent into a frenzy – and opinions are very divided.

In one camp, there were dozens of fashion conscious individuals who couldn’t wait to get their hands on a pair.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘The big red boots are cutesy, if you couldn’t rock them it’s because you have ugly taste, no style and no pizzazz.’
