Mr McCrory had been a guest of honour at the dinner, held in part of Tottenham’s Lilywhite House, before Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight match against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium eight months ago.

An official complaint was made to the Metropolitan Police about the former Sky Sports pundit’s alleged remarks, the Mirror reported.

Mr McCroy was charged in March, and appeared at Highbury magistrates last month accused of using ‘threatening, abusive or insulting words to cause harassment, alarm or distress’, the news website reported.

He was bailed and will appear at the same court in August.

The Met Police confirmed that the charge relates to offence alleged to have occurred at the London Academy of Excellence in Tottenham in September.

Mr McCroy told the paper he would not discuss the case, and strongly denies the allegations.

The former cruiserweight champion was the IBF world title holder from 1989 to 1990.
