Everest and Caulfield Cup racegoers party the night away

[ad_1]

It was a wild day for racegoers after thousands celebrated Australia’s biggest horse racing day for years, with many later kicking off their heels and partying into the night.

Some revellers enjoyed themselves at the Royal Randwick in Sydney after The Everest, while others celebrated in Melbourne at the Caulfield Cup, with a few looking like a day of sunshine and fun eventually got the better of them.

Women dressed in glamorous outfits, taking advantage of the sudden sunny weather, and high heels while men sported suits and ties as they took in the action.

Afterwards, drinks flowed and revellers danced together – though two women took a dramatic fall from their electric bike and needed to lean on a police officer for support.

Another man was carried off into the night on the shoulders of his mate, while many women took the opportunity to walk to taxis barefoot after a long day in heels.

The crowd of 46,221 in Sydney was the Royal Randwick’s largest attendance in half a century, beating the 43,833 that watched Winx’s final race in 2019.

In recent years The Everest has come to rival the Melbourne Cup Carnival as the must-attend day on the racing calendar.

The richest race in the country pits 12 of the best sprinters against each other over 1500m for a prize money purse of $15 million.

Former jockey Clayton Douglas has only been in the training ranks for 18 months, but the 27-year-old has now won the richest race on turf in the world, with veteran Craig Williams guiding the three-year-old to victory ahead of Private Eye and Mazu.

It has held Group 1 status ever since and is considered a form guide to the ‘race that stops a nation’ on the first Tuesday in November.
