Mason Mount has joked that he’s ‘never set foot in a pub’ and doesn’t have time to date as the single sportsman fronted Tatler magazine on Thursday.

The footballer, 23, who split from his longterm girlfriend Chloe Wealleans-Watts, said that the sport is his main priority as The Three Lions prepare for the 2022 World Cup

Starring in a new photoshoot for the magazine’s December issue, Mason swapped his football kit for a suave tuxedo as he joined model Emilia Boateng for the snaps.

Mason described the win as ‘the best feeling ever’ but added that the team ‘celebrated with some water.’

He went on to quip that he had ‘never been to a pub’ only to film an advert with Doritos for the Euros and that ‘football is my priority.’

With his mind firmly set of bringing football home, Mason said his schedule is far too busy for ladies, though he does occasionally date, when he ‘comes up to London.’

Adding of his England teammates he explained: ‘We want to win. And with the group we have, we can definitely do that. I feel like we’re on the right path. We want to make the nation proud.’

It comes as Chelsea boss Graham Potter is surprised that Mason divides opinion and believes the love his in-form star has for football, Chelsea and team-mates is key to what makes him so good.

Potter is the latest manager to fall for Mount, joining Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate in quickly making the attacking midfielder a key part of his plans.

Mount is the only outfield player to start all of Potter’s six games so far and has responded by rediscovering his best form, the player scoring his first Chelsea goals of the season in Sunday’s win at Aston Villa.

He has won the Blues’ player of the season award in the last two seasons yet still has his doubters, and has faced ‘teacher’s pet’ accusations for club and country.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Brentford, Potter said: ‘It’s surprising that I get a few questions about there being mixed opinions on Mason. I find that strange, especially from the outside.

‘Whenever we played against Chelsea you were always concerned about Mason. And then when you start to work with him, he’s got everything you need to be a top, top player. Great attitude, understands spaces, can execute assists, scores goals, so he’s top.’

Asked what Mount’s secret factor is, Potter said: ‘You probably can’t measure love, can you? I would say love for the game, love for his team-mates, love for the club. He loves to play football. It’s his personality as much as his football ability.’
