Emmerdale fans enjoyed a welcome blast from the past during Thursday’s show, as Charity Dingle dragged along her ex-flame Cain for a joyride before revealing her devastating news.
In moving scenes, Charity revealed that DI Bails had died in prison, after he was given 30 years behind bars for raping her as a teenager.
Struggling to react to the news, Charity stole Caleb’s car before dragging Cain into her scheme, speeding to a graveyard where Bails had been laid to rest.
It was then that the exes both shared some home truths for each other, with Cain in particular realising he needed to build bridges with Caleb, with his son Kyle facing a lengthy prison sentence for shooting Al Chapman.
For many Emmerdale fans, it was a welcome reunion for Cain and Charity, who had a turbulent on-off relationship that spanned more than a decade, with many taking to Twitter to claim that the pair would always be ‘endgame.’
Back together! Emmerdale fans went wild for Charity and Cain’s unexpected reunion on Thursday, as her devastating news was revealed
In the scenes, Charity (Emma Atkins) began to spiral after learning the shocking news, and grabbing a bottle of vodka, stole the keys to Caleb’s car.
Concerned for his ex, Cain (Jeff Hordley) got into the car before Charity sped off and took him to a graveyard, revealing that it was Bails’ final resting place after he died in prison.
Charity struggled to hide her fury at Bails’ death, as he had only served four years in prison, while she faced decades of trauma from her abuse.
But Cain insisted that she needed to move forward from her ordeal now that Bails (Rocky Marshal) was in the ground.
Charity then threw it back at her ex, insisting he needed to try and rebuild his relationship with long-lost sibling Caleb (William Ash), for the sake of his son Kyle.
While both flames were reluctant to take their advice on board, it appeared that something stuck, as Charity headed home to confide in partner Mack about her abuse.
She concluded by deciding that she was ready to marry him, no doubt setting the stage for an explosive revelation, as Mack has secretly fathered a baby with Chloe Harris after a one-night stand.
For many soap fans, it was a welcome surprise to see Cain and Chairty sharing scenes again, as years earlier they were one of the Dales’ most iconic couples.
