Em Rusciano has gone to bat for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they were slammed for their controversial Netflix series.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s new show, called Harry and Meghan, has come under fire after critics pointed out the pair had stated they hoped to live ‘a quieter life’ by stepping away from royal duties only to star in an exposé.

The Australian comedian said on the new episode of her podcast, Emosolation, that the couple should be able to build a public profile.

‘She’s trying to do her thing. I just don’t understand the vitriol she cops. I wish her well,’ Em said of Meghan.

‘I think good for you, go hard. If people want to engage with them then that’s their choice. They aren’t doing anything wrong or illegal.’

Em believes that the couple need to ‘control the narrative’ and tell their own story how they see fit.

‘I understand the need to want to control the narrative, so you just be as open as possible, in your language, with your people and your team, and hope that your voice rises above all the other stories going on about you,’ she explained.

‘You’re allowed to say, I want to give my story on my terms,’ she added.

Future episodes are expected to include harmful smears about the Royal Family.

Despite the hype surrounding the series – for which Netflix is believed to have paid $100million – Aussie journalists have dismissed it as ‘boring’ and ‘dull’ so far.
