They were the two incidents in the space of a month to shock Sydney: the brazen daylight shooting of a father in front of his son, and the alleged six day kidnapping of a man where his teeth were ripped out.

And in a chilling coincidence, both have ties to the Elite Fight Force MMA training gym in Sefton, south-west Sydney.

Celebrity chaffeur Taha Sabbagh was murdered out the front of the gym on March 2 as he dropped his son off for training.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal Timothy Bowyer- who was allegedly injured during the kidnapping of his sister’s boyfriend Peter Vuong from Smithfield – regularly trained at the gym.

However, while both Mr Bowyer and Mr Sabbagh are linked to the fitness centre, Daily Mail Australia understands police believe the alleged attacks are unrelated and are treating them as separate matters.

‘There is no evidence to suggest there is a link to either incident,’ a police spokesperson said.

‘Investigations are ongoing into both incidents.’

Several videos posted online show Mr Bowyer, who is an amateur boxer, training at the fitness facility.

Just six weeks ago, he shared a clip showing of sparring with a fellow gym-goer inside one of the boxing rings, captioning the post: ‘Sharpening the tools’.

Mr Bowyer is also followed on Instagram by Elite Fight Force’s owners – Adam Omar, aka ‘Boxa Yass’, and Hany Sbat – who were both friends of Mr Sabbagh.

Mr Omar appears to be a big supporter of Mr Bowyer’s fitness goals, frequently liking or commenting on his posts.

Police will allege Mr Bowyer was injured when a group of men stormed into his family’s sprawling Smithfield home about 5.20am on Thursday to kidnap his brother-in-law.

Mr Voung, 26, was laying in bed with his TikTok star girlfriend when six men allegedly wearing face-coverings and wielding sledgehammers and guns barged into the home and whisked him away to a decrepit property on Canterbury Road, Belmore.

His face was then allegedly covered and his teeth yanked out with pliers as the men demanded Ms Bowyer’s high-flying crypto trader relative – Tran Dinh – pay a $5million ransom for his safe return.

Mr Vuong was rescued by dozens of heavily armed tactical police who raided the property on Tuesday using flash grenades. When they entered, they allegedly found him blindfolded on a bed, and his teeth and a set of bloody pliers in another room.

Six men were arrested nearby a short time later. They have been charged and are currently before the courts.

Detectives are probing whether the alleged attack was carried out as retribution when a drug deal went wrong between one of Mr Vuong’s associates and the accused offenders.

Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting any wrongdoing on behalf of Mr Vuong, the Bowyers, Tran Dinh or any of their relatives.

While detectives are now investigating whether Mr Vuong – who has no criminal record except minor traffic offences – may have been the wrong target of the alleged kidnapping, the homicide squad are on the hunt for Mr Sabbagh’s killers.

The luxury car businessman was taking his son to 6.30am early boxing class at Elite Fight Force earlier this month when he was ambushed in the carpark by two men.

The callous offenders shot the father-of-three up to ten times in front of his 12-year-old son as he sat in the driver’s seat of his black Mercedes SUV before fleeing the scene. A white Mazda 3 was later found burnt out at Birrong train station, nearby.

Underworld sources have claimed Mr Sabbagh’s death was either a case of mistaken identity or possibly retribution for the kidnapping and torture of a jeweller held for a $10million ransom last October.

Daily Mail Australia does not suggest Mr Sabbagh was behind the kidnapping, but it is understood that his killing could have been a ‘warning sign’ to criminal gang members, some of whom train the Elite Fight Force gym.

It is not suggested that Mr Sbat or Mr Omar are involved in any criminal activity or that the jeweller, who is currently abroad, is involved in criminal activity or the killing of Mr Sabbagh.

Meanwhile, Viliami Siasau, 19, Valali Tonga, 20, Sunia Siasau, 20, and John Totau Fahamokioa, 20, faced Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, while Lolo Liavaa, 19 and Kitueau Tatafu, 21, each appeared in Parramatta Local Court over charges related to the alleged abduction and torture.

Fahamokioa was granted bail under strict conditions while the other five men were remanded in custody.

All six will next face court again on May 10.

TIMELINE OF AN ABDUCTION

Thursday, March 9: Peter Vuong is allegedly abducted at a home in Smithfield, in Sydney’s west, at about 5.20am.

He is then taken to a squalid property in Belmore where he is allegedly held hostage.

March 9 – March 14: Mr Vuong is reportedly subjected to extreme violence with police saying ‘firearms were used, sledgehammers were used, the male was tortured, he had his teeth physically removed by these people.’

A ransom note was also allegedly sent to Mr Vuong’s associates. It allegedly threatened to cut Mr Vuong up ‘bit by bit’ unless the kidnappers were given $5 million in 24 hours.

Tuesday, March 14: After an extensive investigation, police discover Mr Vuong’s location. Thirty minutes later, they raid the property.

Four men were arrested at the Canterbury Road property, and a further two were nabbed by officers a few streets away

Wednesday, March 15: Six men aged 19 to 21 years old appear in court om charges related to Mr Vuong’s alleged ordeal and all but one are refused bail
