DUVET know it’s Christmas? From blow-up beds to box rooms… family members share snaps

On Christmas morning, many adult children wake up in makeshift beds in their parents’ homes.

To show off these charming makeshift beds, people take part in an annual tradition on Twitter called Duvet Know It’s Christmas, aka #duvetknowitschristmas.

Now happening for the 12th time, user rhodri called for submissions of the ‘eyepopping variety of impromptu sleeping arrangements’.

The tradition was started to raise money for Centrepoint, a charity supporting young homeless people.

The sleeping arrangements range from an improved airbed to a desk turned bunk.

One user wrote: ‘I’m in my 9yo nephew’s bed (he’s in my other nephew’s bottom bunk).

‘Phil is in a new and improved airbed (last year he woke up on the floor, some kind of slow puncture).

The social media tradition also features interesting arrangements like a magical deskbed, which is a desk that can be folded down to turn into a bed.

However, sleeping on this can be difficult, as someone might ‘have emails to do’, like one person tweeted.

Some just enjoy the comfort of seeing others lovingly made beds, no matter where in the friends’ or families’ homes.

One user said: ‘The thing I find comforting about #duvetknowitschristmas is that the prevalence of houses filled with clutter, lumber and chaos is almost universal.

‘Nobody lives in the houses we see rich people living, where the furniture sits strategically placed in the middle of the room.’
