Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment a man allegdly lit a service station’s shelves on fire after the employee refused to give him cigarettes.

The frightening video shows the angry customer allegedly pouring a flammable liquid over the Ballina, Sydney, service station shelves before allegedly setting them alight just before 7.30pm on Monday.

The man then runs out of the store before the fire explodes as it comes into contact with aerosol cans.

A second explosion caused panels of the shop’s roof to collapse. 

The man allegedly lit the fire after demanding the employee give him a pack of cigarettes, which the employee refused to do.

The employee is also seen in the video rushing to extinguish the flames. 

The 41-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident and charged with property damage.

The man appeared in Ballina Local Court on Thursday and will undergo a mental health assessment.
