Shameless Deliveroo customer is slammed for having ‘no humanity’ after going to collect order from driver who had collapsed outside his building and was being helped by the public

  • Mohammed was making a delivery at Meranti House, London when he collapsed
  • Food recipients stepped over Mohammed and went upstairs to dine, it was said

A shameless Deliveroo customer has been slammed on Twitter for having ‘no humanity’ after going to collect their order from a driver who had collapsed outside his building.

A man, identified only as Mohammed, was making a delivery at the front door of the swish Meranti House in London when he collapsed at around 10:30pm last night, according to witness James Farrar, who reported the issue on Twitter.

Mohammed, who was drifting in and out of consciousness, was treated by the public before an ambulance arrived more than an hour later, according to Mr Farrar.

But when the hungry food recipients came to collect their food, they realised some items was missing and pointed to Mohammed’s bag before stepping over him and going upstairs to dine on the incomplete order.

James Farrar posted on Twitter to share his outrage last night after a Deliveroo driver named Mohammed collapsed and the customer stepped over him to collect their food

Speaking of the customer, Mr Farrar asked if they had 'no humanity' after they took their order from the collapsed driver

‘A woman tried to keep him sat up while a man called Tristan kept calling the ambulance service trying to convince them Mohamed was a priority one call.

‘We tried to get Mohamed to drink but he could not. A woman used ice to try to keep him awake. We could not know if head a head injury.

‘At first Mohamed seemed over heated so we took down his hood. Then he became cold and the bar brought out a foil recovery blanket. It was absurd that he could not be brought inside the Meranti so I asked again and they agreed he could enter.’

Mr Farrar explained that all the while the Deliveroo app kept alerting Mohammed to complete the delivery, but nobody from the company called to check if he was okay.

Speaking of the customer, he wrote: ‘The food recipients checked their order but something was amiss. They wanted to ask Mohammed & pointed to his bag. I asked if they had no humanity.

‘They then stepped over Mohammed & went upstairs to dine on the incomplete order Mohammed may have given his life to deliver them.

‘We were able to reach Mohammed’s wife on his phone and she arrived on scene with her brother. She was desperately worried. An ambulance eventually arrived to treat Mohammed more than an hour after the first call.’

Speaking to The Mirror, Mr Farrar, the general secretary of the App Drivers and Couriers Union, said: ‘People came down to enquire about their food and he had the app open on his phone.

‘Another delivery driver came by and he took the app and it was just pinging for this delivery.

‘He swiped it was delivered for Mohamed and gave the people their food.

‘And they wanted to have a conversation about what might have been missing and I said ‘are you joking? do you have no humanity?’

‘And they were like ‘oh ok’ and stepped over him and went upstairs with their food.’

Mr Farrar added that last night’s events outside Meranti House in East London, where flats sell for nearly £1million, showed a ‘bleak London’.

He also said that when he tried to contact Deliveroo himself he was given a chatbot to speak to and then sent a feedback survey.

‘Riders are at the very heart of our business and their safety and well-being is our absolute priority.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We are very sorry that some patients have waited longer than they should for an ambulance and on the night of this incident we were experiencing particularly high demand across London.

‘Our teams are working incredibly hard to make sure people get the care they need, and we are doing everything we can to reduce our response times.’
