Two cops have suffered acid burns after storming into a southwest Sydney home filled with a corrosive chemical where a 91-year-old man was found dead.Â
The elderly man, who had been stabbed, was discovered by NSWÂ Police officers at about 9.15pm on Wednesday night at a home in Roselands.
The man’s distraught son made the grisly discovery and contacted police, who then arrested another male family member at a nearby home. Â
Fire and Rescue NSW had to be called to the scene after two officers suffered minor chemical burns.
Superintendent Sheridan Waldau said the chemical found at the scene was hydrochloric acid, which is commonly used to adjust the PH levels for swimming pools.Â

She said the substance was spread around the house, but did not appear to be on the body. Â
The officers were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to St George Hospital, with one receiving oxygen as treatment for their burns.Â
Both officers have since been released.
A 24-year-old male relative was arrested at about 11:15pm and taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.Â
Superintendent Waldau said the 24-year-old had recently come under notice of police and would require treatment and possibly surgery for injuries sustained prior to his arrest.Â
NSW Police believe the incident is domestic violence-related.
Superintendent Waldau said one male relative at the scene was very distressed and had to temporarily be restrained.Â
‘It was a highly volatile and emotional situation last night,’ she told reporters on Thursday.
‘One of the other family members was quite emotional when the 24-year-old was taken into custody.Â
‘As a result, police had to step in and restrain him. He was not arrested and he will not be charged. He was just restrained and taken away from the scene so we could calm him down.’
