Danny Dyer revealed in January he would be leaving EastEnders after a decade.  

And now the actor, 45 has confirmed that he will play the lead in ‘powerful and dark’ Channel 5 action thriller Heat, which begins filming in Victoria, Australia this month. 

As well as the four-part action thriller, Danny has signed up to host a travel show for E4 with his Love Island star daughter Dani Dyer, and a gameshow with Strictly’s Ellie Taylor for Netflix titled Cheat.

Danny told The Sun of Heat: ‘I can’t wait to get amongst this beautiful piece of work in Australia. I’ve always been intrigued about working there.

‘It’s my first gig since EastEnders. Heat has a powerful, dark script and strong Australian cast and crew. Let’s have it!’

Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor for Channel 5 and Paramount+ told the publication: ‘Heat is a nailbiting thriller and I can’t wait to see him [Danny] bring his talent and energy to it’.

Heat sees two families who are long-time friends visit a secluded home for a summer holiday during Australia’s bushfire season. 

Danny – who has played Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders for a decade – will in good company as he joins a cast including Neighbours alumni Olympia Valance and Richie Morris.

In addition, Christmas On The Farm actor and Australian actress Jane Allsop will star in the action thriller.

In March, it was revealed that Danny was planning to trot the globe with his reality star daughter Dani, to film television travel shows for E4.

A TV insider told The Sun: ‘Nobody would have predicted this would have been his first move, even though he did say at the time he was keen to “try some other stuff”.’ 

Danny will also join Strictly Come Dancing star Ellie Taylor to co-host a new gameshow on Netflix titled Cheat, which will air in 2023.
