The Lord Mayor’s Show, a procession which dates back to the 13th century, took over the streets of the City of London today as delighted crowds lined the way.

London’s financial district was filled with pomp and pageantry as the 800-year-old parade saw over a hundred groups walk, drive and cycle the route in costumes and official regalia.

The extravagant celebration, one of Britain’s oldest traditions, was cancelled for just the second time in its long history due to Covid in 2020.

The Lord Mayor is the City of London’s mayor and is elected every year. The role is not linked to the Mayor of London, a position held by Sadiq Khan.

New Lord Mayors are elected on September 29 and sworn in the day before the Show.

The parade completes the swearing-in process by delivering the Lord Mayor from Mansion House, their official residence, to Westminster, where they swear loyalty to the Crown.

Alderman Nicolas Lyons was elected to be this year’s Mayor, and will be the 694th person to hold the prestigious title.
