Coronation Street star Sam Aston and his wife Briony have revealed their baby girl’s name to be Daisy Josephine.

Congratulations: Coronation Street star Sam Aston and his wife Briony have revealed their baby girl’s name to be Daisy Josephine
She said: ‘Josephine is a nod to Sam’s brother Jo and my grandad Joe. Daisy is also the French name for Marguerite and my mum’s mum is called Margaret, so it was a way to have both grandparent’s in there.’
Daisy was born on 10 May, nine days late, following a three-hour labour at their home in Lancashire.
Her parents describe the little one as a ‘dream’ and said that after her birth they played My Girl in a sweet moment.
It was very different to the birth of son Sonny, who was born six week prematurely and had to spend nine days in hospital after developing jaundice and struggling to feed.
Happy news: The couple, who are already parents to son Sonny, 20 months, opened up on what life is like as a family of four
Briony said: ‘It was the complete other end of the spectrum. I felt safer in control, whereas last time I didn’t feel in control of anything. I had loads of doctors staring at me and it was a blur.’
Sam – who has played Chesney Brown on Corrie for nearly 20 years – also explained the challenges of having two under two.
He explained: ‘My current life actually goes very well with my storyline and Chesney having quads. It’s full-on from the moment we wake up. It’s like having a job! Sonny has us up at 5am and there is no time to think as the day is just gone. If you see me looking knackered on the screen it’s because I am! A lot of people go to work for a break from their kids but I’ve got five kids at work.’
The couple announced the birth of their daughter in May to OK! magazine, saying: ‘Our beautiful girl has arrived.’

In December, the couple revealed the ‘nice surprise’ that they’re expecting is a sister for Sonny.
Sam told OK! magazine: ‘I could see us having another boy, so it was a really nice surprise. I was quite shocked.
Sam detailed: ‘There are twins in Briony’s family, so when we went in I was a bit nervous and said, “There’s definitely only one in there, right?'” He said, “There’s only one!” and then told us it was a girl!’
The couple hadn’t been planning to have another child so soon but now they are happy to be having kids that will be close in age.
Taking to Instagram at the time, they shared a photo of Sonny holding a blackboard that read: ‘We’re adding another pumpkin to our patch! Spring 2022’.
Briony previously said the couple were trying ‘not’ to get pregnant because Sonny was born premature and she worried there could be a risk of another premature birth so soon after having him.
Sam added that Sonny was planned while this pregnancy was a total surprise
And while Sam thought their family would be ‘complete’ with a boy and a girl, his wife has other ideas.
Long-running character: Sam – who has played Chesney Brown on Corrie for nearly 20 years – also explained the challenges of having two under two (pictured in 2011 on the soap)
Briony told how Sam tried to give her a fist bump for completing their family after they found out they were having a girl but she told him just because they’ll have one of each, doesn’t mean the family is done.
Sam and Briony tied the knot in 2019, two years after the couple announced their engagement.
The couple first announced they were expecting a boy when speaking with OK! magazine, saying: ‘We’re having a boy!
‘It was a massive surprise when we found out, as there are loads of girls in our families, so we were adamant we were having a girl.’
