Roy Cropper will spark concern among his loved ones when he becomes addicted to his phone in Coronation Street next week.
For years the cafe owner has been reluctant to adapt to modern technology, but finally gave into getting a phone earlier this year following a nasty scare with his niece Nina.
But in upcoming scenes, Roy begins to worry close friend Carla Connor when he becomes too reliant on his phone to put it down at work, leading Nina to issue him with a wager – will he give in?
Nina (Mollie Gallagher) first presented Roy (David Nielson) with his mobile phone at Christmas, but he was reluctant to accept it, admitting he was a man firmly in the analogue age.
But, after Nina was injured in the woods trying to find Roy when he disappeared, he began to realise that phones could have their uses, but only in emergencies.

Roy slowly began to embrace his phone, first through text messages which he began with ‘Dear Nina,’ and later through accidentally using an aubergine emoji, unaware of its racy meaning.
In recent weeks, Roy has realised that having a mobile phone means a world of information is at his fingertips, and in particular, updates about the Roman fort excavation he is interested in.
Roy’s obsession with the fort, and his phone, begins to worry to Carla (Alison King), as he struggles to complete his shift at the cafe without putting it down.
This isn’t the first time Roy’s discovery of newfound marvels took over his life, as in 2019 he became addicted to online Scrabble.
Roy’s reliance on his phone also catches the eye of Nina, and she issues him with a challenge – put his phone away and finish his shift without.
Will Roy give in?
It comes after it was revealed that Corrie has been hit with Ofcom complaints over violent scenes which aired last Wednesday and saw Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) stabbed and nearly killed.
The dark episode of the ITV soap was part of a harrowing racism storyline.

Viewers hit out at the show’s ongoing terrifying extremism plot where an attempt was made to murder Maria Connor, played by Samia Longchambon.
The episode prompted a total of 72 Ofcom complaints about the violence.
The scene took place as Maria gave a speech at an event organised to highlight the Weatherfield refugee drop-in centre.
As Maria welcomed the refugees, Max Turner was on his phone listening to a character named Blake making a racist speech pledging to put an end to the refugee centre by whatever means necessary.

A far right gang has recently groomed the teen, isolating him from his loved ones and pushing him to help spread Griff’s racist agenda.
Blake has also been manipulated and acted out by attempting to murder councillor Maria.
Pushing his way through the crowd in the restaurant Black revealed he had a knife on him and Alya stepped in front of Maria as he tried to hurt her.
Alya was stabbed and seriously injured in the struggle before Gary Windass, played by Mikey North, tackled Blake to the ground.
However, it was too late for Alya as she dropped down clutching her chest where her wound was bleeding.
Blake was arrested by police and blamed the attack on Max.
Viewers were left less than impressed by the ‘bloody violence’ scenes and took to Twitter to complain about the dark episode.
