Is that you, Effie? Mary Coustas, 57, proves she’s barely aged a day in years as she ditches her famous wig to step out for rare outing with her lookalike daughter

She is best known as the bombastic character Effie Stephanidis from the early ’90s sitcom Acropolis Now.

But Mary Coustas, 57, proved she hasn’t aged a day in three decades as she ditched her famous wig to support her lookalike daughter Jamie at Kidz Fashion Week in Sydney on Friday.

The actress showed off her youthful visage as she smiled for photographers, dressed in an orange top that featured frilly long-sleeves and black jeans.

Mary became a mother to daughter Jamie with husband George Betsis in November 2013, after completing 23 rounds of IVF.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph in 2020, the comedian best known for her character Effie, reflected on her decade-long battle to conceive.

‘We’re all attached to our past and trying to move forward,’ she said.

‘They’re deeply traumatic times and I describe trauma as ‘something that you’re not expecting and that king hits you out of nowhere’. You learn how to live with it.’

Mary suffered years of heartbreak, including a miscarriage and daughter Stevie, who was delivered stillborn in May 2011.

‘We didn’t assume that we would get the happy ending,’ she explained at the time.

‘I mean many people don’t and we were looking like we were not going to get it. I still went back to Greece on three occasions after Stevie.

‘I still did six other attempts after Stevie to get Jamie. That’s a lot. That’s more than most people do to get one child, the first time they do IVF.
