BREAKING: Collingwood grant Jordan de Goey personal leave and he will MISS clash with GWS Giants after troubled star was hit with a suspended $25,000 fine for his antics in Bali

  • Jordan de Goey will miss Collingwood’s game against GWS this weekend
  • The 26-year-old has been granted personal leave after his trip to Bali
  • De Goey was hit with a suspended $25k fine by the AFL club earlier this week
  • He was seen pulling down a woman’s top during a night at a Bali nightclub

Jordan De Goey has taken personal leave and will miss Collingwood’s game against GWS as the fallout from his trip to Bali continues.

The 26-year-old has not been at Magpies HQ since returning from his mid-season trip overseas, where a video emerged of the midfielder pulling down the top of a woman in a nightclub.

Collingwood hit De Goey with a suspended $25,000 fine this week and confirmed on Wednesday that he will not be available for selection for Sunday’s game against the Giants.

‘The Collingwood Football Club advises player Jordan De Goey has been granted personal leave by the club and will not take part in the Round 15 match against the GWS Giants,’ the statement read.

‘Jordan has been absent from training this week and the club will continue to support him on his return to the football program.’

De Goey is a free agent at the end of the year and last week’s debacle has cast doubt over his future at the Magpies. It has been reported that Collingwood withdrew their existing two-year offer after the Bali video emerged.

Meanwhile, the Pies have come under-fire for what has been viewed as a lenient sanction handed down to De Goey.

The $25,000 penalty is suspended until the end of the season, pending good behaviour, with Pies with CEO Mark Anderson saying De Goey’s actions had ‘demonstrated disrespect towards women’.

News Corp journalist Robinson said he was ‘staggered’ by the leniency of the punishment given the 26-year-old’s record of off-field indiscretions.

‘I’m quite staggered that the AFL and Collingwood (didn’t come down harder). The way Mark Anderson spoke in the press release first and then spoke really strong, really powerful words, but the actions didn’t back up the words,’ he said on AFL360.

‘A $25,000 suspended fine, it’s not a penalty, it’s an ‘if you do it again’ punishment.

‘Well, he might not do it again, so what’s the punishment? Other than the gross embarrassment that is surrounding Jordan at the moment … Collingwood is just tough talking, but the actions aren’t really fitting.’
