Dodger’s face was leaned very far forward in the shot with his brown snout and big eyes focused on the road ahead of the pair.

The Boston native captioned the snap, ‘#nationalrescuedogday ❤️.’

Several of Evans’ famous friends and fans responded in the comments with Once Upon A Time actress Jamie Chung wrote, ‘The best pup[heart eyes emoji] and The Help star Octavia Spencer wrote, ‘Awwwwwwwwwww’ followed by a pair of emojis.

Evans originally adopted Dodger after filming a scene for his movie Gifted back in 2017.

‘One of the last scenes we were filming was in a pound, a kennel,’ the actor told People during an interview shortly after adopting Dodger. ‘I foolishly walked in and I thought, “Are these actor dogs or are these real up for adoption dogs.” And sure enough they were, so I was walking up and down the aisles and saw this one dude and he didn’t belong there.’

He continued, ‘I snagged him and he’s such a good dog. They aged him at about one, he acts like a puppy, he’s got the energy of a puppy, he’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy. He loves dogs, he loves kids, he’s full of love.’

As Evans approached the fence separating him and Dodger, the dog started wagging its tail wildly before sniffing and licking at the movie star’s hand.

‘I had no intention of rescuing a dog that day, but the minute I saw him I knew he was coming home w me,’ the star wrote in the caption.
