Davidson had indecently assaulted the 15-year-old daughter of his friend while she was at her family home alone with the surfer, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Davidson had turned down an invitation to go out with his friend and remained alone with the teenage girl to watch a movie.

He complimented the 15-year-old on her appearance, asked if she had a boyfriend then followed her to her bedroom after she got up because she felt uncomfortable.

Davidson then touched her hands and kissed her, with the incident leaving the girl feeling ‘scared and uncomfortable’, according to court documents.

‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I should not have done that,’ Davidson said. ‘I’m sorry, don’t tell your dad.’

The teenager then snuck out of the house before telling another man who lived at the property about the incident.

He then threw Davidson out of the house with the surf star denying he had done anything wrong.

Davidson was charged with one count of assault with act of indecency and pleaded guilty before he was given a three-year good behaviour bond in 2017.

He breached it when he failed to declare he was working at a surf academy in South West Rocks and giving lessons to children in 2018.

Davidson was charged with fail to comply with reporting obligations and sentenced to a three-year community corrections order and told to do 100 hours of community service.

The indecent assault charge adds to his chequered history of drug and alcohol abuse, a dark past that Davidson was open about in a 2006 interview.

‘I don’t want anything to do with that bad-boy image. I just want to be known as Davo, good surfer, nice guy. I don’t want this bad boy hype,’ he told surf magazine Stab.

Tributes poured in for Davidson immediately following his death with many remembering his illustrious career in the water.

Davidson defeated American Surfing champion Kelly Slater in two consecutive heats at the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in Victoria in 1996.

At the time, Davidson was only 19 and had been admitted into the competition as a wild card.

‘Lost another soldier yesterday,’ Slater wrote in a tribute on Instagram, alongside a picture of Davidson.

Another friend said Davidson had been ‘taken too soon’.

‘Thinking of your many friends worldwide and of course your family,’ she said.

‘Such a wild, kind hearted character that will be sorely missed. RIP Davo.’

A family friend who had known Mr Davidson since the wave rider was 14 said he was ‘one of the most gifted surfers’ he had ever seen.

‘He was a wild child with a heart of gold! He was… a good kid. A life cut needlessly short.

‘My deepest condolences to family and friends.’

Police have not released details of what they believe sparked the incident leading to Davidson’s death.

Coleman is due to next appear before Kempsey Local Court on November 23.
