The premiere came after Cate spoke at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier on Thursday.

The actress looked sensational in an iridescent purple top and leather trousers which accentuated her slim waist for the Berlinale Talent Talk Grand Orchestra: Conducting Tar event.

She grinned with friend and fellow Tar star Nina Hoss, who looked equally glamorous in a striped blue shirt paired with a black leather midi skirt.

The talk involved director Todd Field, Nina, Cate and cellist and actor Sophie Kauer as well as composer Hildur Guðnadóttir as they discussed how they worked in harmony to create the acclaimed film.

Their collaboration allowed them to successfully portray a fictional portrait of the first female chief conductor of a major German orchestra, Lydia Tar, played by Cate.

Cate smiled and laughed as she attended the event, wearing her blonde locks in a side ponytail.

It comes after Cate, who won her third Oscar for best actress in Tar, previously admitted that she has considered an early retirement.

‘It’s not occasional – it’s continual,’ Cate told the February edition of Vanity Fair.

Cate went on to say that she thinks about stepping away from acting on a ‘daily or weekly basis. ‘It’s a love affair, isn’t it?’ she continued.

‘So you do fall in and out of love with it, and you have to be seduced back into it.’

The beloved Melbourne-born actress said that since completing her part in Tar, which was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture, she has turned down a number of roles.

She told the magazine that it was time be ‘be quiet’, because the role was so intense it became exhausting.

It comes after Cate appeared on The Sunday Project last month to discuss retirement.

‘I think it was because [Tár] was such a physical role, the echoes of it are still with me and I think I’m like a lot of audience members, I need time to process it,’ she said.

Cate won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2004 for Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator.

In 2013, the star scored a Best Actress Oscar for her role in the comedy-drama Blue Jasmine directed by Woody Allen.

Previously, Cate called out cancel culture and said society will be ‘destined to repeat’ our mistakes if history is airbrushed.

The star said she thinks it is important to have a ‘healthy critique’ of historical works of art and continue to study them despite the artists’ actions.

She used Pablo Picasso as an example as she said she could ‘only imagine’ what happened at the time but praised him for creating Guernica, which she deemed ‘one of the greatest work of art ever’.

She told Radio Times: ‘You look at Picasso. You can only imagine what went on in, outside and around his studio.

‘But do you look at Guernica and say that is one of the greatest works of art ever? Yes, it’s a fact. I think it’s important to have a healthy critique.’

She said: ‘If you don’t read older books that are slightly offensive because of what they say in a historical context, then you will never grapple with the minds of the time [and] we are destined to repeat that stuff.’

Cate went on to say that her new movie Tar used cancel culture as a plot device to tackle ‘existential’ issues.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cate also addressed the double standards women face in positions of power.

She said: ‘As a woman, when you don’t wield your power – in the way we see men wield their power – then people think you don’t know what you’re doing, you don’t know what you think.’
