Teenager is charged over the brutal stabbing murder of a 17-year-old – and police fear the ‘targeted’ killing could be linked to another fatal knife attack in same town weeks earlier

  • Teen, 17, allegedly stabbed to death at his Casino home early Saturday morning
  • Strike Force Linford arrested a man, 18, who has been charged with murder
  • It’s second fatal stabbing in the NSW northern rivers town within four weeks

A quiet country town has been rocked for the second time within a month by another death of teen allegedly stabbed to death.

Emergency services were called to a home on McDougall Street in the NSW northern rivers town of Casino early Saturday morning.

A teen, 17, was found with stab wounds to his neck but died at the scene, despite desperate attempts to revive him.

The boy’s parents were also home at the time.

Detectives cordoned off the street and launched Strike Force Linford to investigate the teen’s death.

Strike force inquiries led to the arrest of a man, 18, at a Casino home on Sunday morning.

He was charged with murder and refused bail to appear in Lismore Local Court tomorrow.

A second crime scene was established at his home after the man’s arrest and is being forensically examined.

The victim’s home has also been forensically examined by dozens of police, who revealed the boy’s parents were home at the time of the alleged stabbing.

‘They’re quite distressed as you would be, losing a child in any circumstances is tragic enough,’ Superintendent Scott Tanner said.

Additional officers from the region and homicide detectives from Sydney have been deployed to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Police believe the alleged incident was a targeted attack.

It’s the second fatal stabbing in Casino within a month after local teen Lachlan Andrews, 17, was allegedly stabbed to death outside a KFC during a fight of up to 20 people.

Police fear the alleged incidents could be linked but reassured the public there’s no ongoing threat.

Locals have been left shellshocked by the latest tragedy.

‘It’s scary and it’s very sad,’ one neighbour told Nine News.

‘Quiet people. Loveliest people you’d ever meet.’

Another added: ‘I just don’t get it why teens these days can do things like that. There’s no need for it.’

The latest alleged stabbing comes four weeks after Lachlan’s death on May 29, described by devastated loved ones as a ‘caring’ ‘family man’
