Cardi B and Madonna have buried the hatchet and expressed their love for each other after a virulent online feud was launched.
It all began Saturday when Cardi B, Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian were singled out by the Material Girl in a social media post as an example of women she had helped pave the way for to be more open about their sexuality.
But the 64-year-old hitmaker touched a nerve with Cardi B, 30, who was offended by the tone of the post on Madonna’s Instagram Stories.
Feud over: Cardi B, 30, and Madonna, 64, have buried the hatchet and expressed their love for each other after a virulent online feud was launched online after a post in Madonna’s Instagram Stories
It seemed to start innocently, with Madonna writing about the 30th anniversary of her book, S.E.X , and how she had been vilified for her openness.
’30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X. in addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone,’ she wrote.
Madonna continued: ‘I also wrote about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view about sexuality in an ironic way.’
Provocateur: In the statement, the 64-year-old hitmaker spoke about how she previously opened up to the public about her private life in ways that greatly outraged much of the public
Names: Madonna said she has been called a variety of names over her career, including ‘a wh*re a witch a heretic and the devil’
Making way: The Like a Virgin singer claimed her actions have made it easier for artists and celebrities such as Cardi B, Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian to be who they are
The Borderline singer went on to express that she was the target of criticism from less open-minded individuals.
‘I spent the new few years being interviewed by narrow minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a Woman,’ she recalled.
Madonna then remarked that she ‘was called a w****, a witch a heretic and the devil’ during the period of time.
Pushback: After reading the post in Madonna’s Stories, Cardi B pushed back
Disappointment: The Hustlers actor expressed her disappointment on Twitter
The hitmaker went on to express that modern entertainers were allowed to be much more open about their sexualities.
‘Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked a** and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball,’ she said. Madonna then concluded her statement by writing: ‘You’re welcome b*tches.’
Cardi seemed particularly peeved about the clown emoji and the b-word used at the end of the missive which Madonna closed with ‘You’re welcome b*tches.’
Tone: The BET award winner didn’t seem to mind Madonna taking credit for paving the way, but she did object to the use of the b-word and a clown emoji at the end of the Story
Responding on Twitter, the Bodak Yellow singer wrote, ‘I literally payed this woman homage so many times cause I grew up listening to her …she can make her point without putting clown emojis and getting slick out the mouth .. ‘
She continued, ‘These icons really become disappointments once u make it in the industry that’s why I keep to myself.’
While some fans took issue with Cardi’s reaction, one seemed to sum the discord up succinctly writing, ‘she’s not mat at what she (Madonna) said if you read the tweet properly… it’s the clown emoji after and addressing her as a btch not hard to comprehend.’
Makeup call: TMZ reported Sunday that the two had spoken on the phone and cleared up any misunderstanding
The Whip Shots founder agreed, adding, ‘Exactly say what you want but don’t insult me… nobody gonna lil girl me (specially a white woman.)
TMZ reported both artists spoke Sunday to clear things up and both have expressed their love for each other on Twitter with Madonna tweeting, ‘I love you @iamcardib!! Always have and always will.’
The BET award winner quickly followed up with her own ‘Love you’ followed by a heart emoji.
