Doffing his tophat while riding his Penny-farthing through the bustling streets of 19th century London, a Victorian gentleman beams at passing pedestrians from his lofty vantage.

Horses pull carriages over the dusty road, their coachmen navigating the crowds, pigeons and piles of street debris, littering their route. 

This is a colourful snapshot of life during the reign of Britain’s second longest-serving monarch, forever popularised by author Charles Dickens… but amidst the hustle-and-bustle, not all is as it seems.

Hidden in the image are 10 objects that have no rightful place – items from the modern era that no artist of the time could conceive of including.

Look closely: There are TEN modern-day objects within this Victorian street scene… how many can you spot?

The puzzle was created by the British Standards Institution (BSI) to celebrate its famous BSI kite mark, which is approaching its 120-year anniversary in June this year.  The mark is used as a mark of quality and reliability

The symbol first appeared on tramway rails in 1903, and can be seen on hundreds of different products and services including manhole covers, security locks, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers.

Natasha Bambridge, BSI’s UK product certification director, says the kite mark is a highly recognised mark of quality which consumers know they can trust.

She told the Independent: ‘Eight in 10 of us recognise the importance of British standards, and 59 per cent look out for the BSI kite mark as a mark of quality for products and services from sofas to customer services’.
