Call The Midwife star Helen George shows her dark side on East London shopping trip

Best-known to television viewers as blonde Trixie Franklin in Call The Midwife, actress Helen George cuts a rather different figure in real life.

Our pictures show the 38-year-old sporting a brunette look during a shopping trip in East London.

Nor was her hair the only thing to change – rather than the bag of medical accessories that her screen character is often seen clutching, Ms George opted for a £1,440 chain wallet from design house Yves Saint Laurent.

She also wore a £125 pair of Nike Performance Metcon 8 trainers.

An onlooker remarked: ‘Helen looked so different to how we are used to seeing her on the telly – almost unrecognisable, in fact. But, of course, she was still as striking as ever.’

Birmingham-born George studied musical theatre at the Royal Academy of Music and previously worked as a backing singer, touring with Sir Elton John.

The mother of two girls with her Call The Midwife co-star and partner Jack Ashton –who played Rev Tom Hereward – she finished sixth in the 2015 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Other screen credits include roles in Red Dwarf and Hollyoaks, and in May 2020 she sang (There’ll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs Of Dover at Buckingham Palace in a BBC broadcast marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
