A seemingly worried Simon, 62, seemed to be under the impression that Her Majesty may not make it to the variety show in December, after she faced a host of mobility issues during the Jubilee weekend.

Chatting to illusionist contestant Ben Nickless, the music mogul made a remark that seemingly pre-empted the demise of the Queen, as he spoke about the winner of the show performing at the royal event.

Before pausing for a second, he said: ‘This year, more than any, anyone who gets the chance to perform…’, then pulling a worried face, Simon continued: ‘Please God it is the queen, its gonna be a huge big deal’.

Viewers of the show picked up on the awkward moment too, taking to Twitter to question whether Simon was predicting that Her Majesty would not be around for the show.

One wrote: ‘Did Simon imply that “incase the queen died” there?’, while another said ‘does he knew something we don’t?’.

Another social media user said the moment ‘went down like a lead balloon’, writing: ‘That awkward silence after Simon basically implied the queen is on her way out’.

It comes after she had to miss out on Jubilee events such as Friday’s Thanksgiving service and Saturday’s Epsom Derby due to on going mobility issues.

On Friday, Buckingham Palace explained the the Queen had suffered ‘discomfort’ after a busy first day of festivities.

The monarch has been taking part in fewer public appearances in the last few months due to these mobility issues, but was out in full spirits on Thursday to kick off the celebration.

The weekend was filled with a host of extravagant events to celebrate her 70 years on the throne, including a lavish Pageant on Sunday.
