Becky Hill became very emotional as she accepted the Best Dance Act at the BRIT Awards in London on Saturday.

The songstress, 28, risked a backlash after swearing when it appeared she was struck with nerves.

Becky beat fellow stars  Bonobo, Calvin Harris, Eliza Rose and Fred Again to be crowned winner of the award for a second time.

Taking the trophy she said: ‘Wow it’s heavy’ before declaring: ‘S*** I did have something planned [to say]’.

She went on to compliment her fellow nominees before becoming emotional and choking back tears.

BRIT AWARDS 2023: Becky Hill swears and chokes back tears as she receives Best Dance Act

Tears: Becky Hill, 28, became very emotional as she accepted the Best Dance Act at the BRIT Awards in London on Saturday

She said: ‘I want to thank the Brits committee for putting me on the shortlist of the dance act for another year,’.

‘It is such an honour to be nominated especially alongside the amazing Eliza Rose and the incredible Raye’.

‘I think Beyoncé said it best in her Grammy speech. We all have the queer community to thank for the best genre on earth.’

The hitmaker looked sensational in a chic black sequinned frock by Michael Kors Collection.

Her dress featured one sleeve as well as racy cut out at her svelte waist as well as a thigh-high split

Becky added heigh to her frame with a pair of a pair of huge gold platform heels and accessorised with a selection of diamonds.

Accentuating her features with a light dusting of make-up she tied back her blonde tresses.

Mo Gilligan returns as The BRIT Awards host for the second year running, with the comedian saying he is ‘honoured’ to be back to celebrate the biggest night in British music.

For the first time in the ceremony’s history, it takes place on a Saturday, broadcast live from London’s O2 Arena.

Harry Styles, Wet Leg, and Sam Smith lead this year’s nominations as the stars battle it out for the coveted awards.

All three will perform on the night, with Lizzo, Becky Hill, Cat Burns and Stormzy also storming the stage.

Music bosses have come under fire, however, when the shortlist was announced last month.

In a surprise snub, female artists were shut out of the Artist Of The Year, which last year introduced a gender-neutral overhaul by scrapping its male and female-centric categories.

The first gender-neutral award was handed to Adele last year, but in her acceptance speech she pointedly told the audience: ‘ love being a woman.’

Nominated for Artist Of The Year are Central Cee, Fred Again, George Ezra, Harry Styles and Stormzy.

Harry, Stormzy and Fred Again – real name Fred Gibson – are also up for album of the year, alongside The 1975 and indie duo Wet Leg, who are the only female act in the category.

Charli XCX, whose fifth studio album Crash topped the charts, and Florence and the Machine, whose album Dance Fever earned the singer her fourth UK number one, were notably absent.

Now, BRIT Award bosses are in talks to bring back separate categories for best male and female artist next year, after no women made the shortlist for its new gender-neutral prize.

The coveted Song Of The Year With Mastercard category will see Aitch with Baby Ft Ashanti, Cat Burns with Go, Dave with Starlight, and Ed Sheeran And Elton John with their festive hit Merry Christmas battle it out.
